THE BANDSTAND will be set in 1945, and centers on "a handful of military vets who form a band in order to compete in a national radio contest." The swing-themed score is from Richard Oberacker, who composed the music and collaborated on the lyrics and book with Robert Taylor.

Directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, the production will star Laura Osnes (CINDERELLA), Corey Cott (NEWSIES, GIGI) and Beth Leavel (THE DROWSY CHAPERONE).

The FirstWorks Artistic Icons Series continues in 12 days with "Walking with 'Trane," a new live music/dance event created by the electrifying, Brooklyn-based Urban Bush Women dance troupe in tribute to the life of legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane and his seminal jazz suite, "A Love Supreme." "Walking with 'Trane" has its New England premiere on Saturday, February 27, 8 p.m. at The Vets in downtown Providence. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for JumpStart festivities in the venue lobby, featuring performances by The Leland Baker 4tet, Edgar Viloria's Thr3e Live Dance Company and Central Falls High School Africana Arts students. Producers have announced that Mark Stuart Dance Theatre's critically acclaimed new dance musical, Standard Time, will extend its limited engagement at The Duke on 42nd Street (229 W 42nd Street) in NYC two additional weeks, now through Sunday, December 20, 2015. The new dance musical, which Dance Magazine called "Spectacular," features direction and choreography by award-winning choreographer Mark Stuart (Women on the Verge..., The Bandstand). Michael Kimmel's (The Last Goodbye) new play will be read for the first time in New York on November 30th, 2015 at 7:30 PM for a one night-only benefit reading in Theater 511 at Ars Nova (511 West 54thStreet), directed by Molly Beach Murphy (Big Bend in the Red Dirt Desert) and featuring an all-star cast. Kimmel is also the author of Songbird, which premiered and is running currently at 59e59, now extended through December 6th. Proceeds will benefit Healthy Birth Day & Count The Kicks, which is dedicated to the prevention of stillbirth and infant death through education, advocacy, and support. The evening is stage managed by Michelle Heller (Les Miserables) and produced by Allison Bressi (Songbird).
