A Scythian shepherd of ferocious will rises to power to become king of half the world. An epic spectacle first performed in 1587 to wildly popular acclaim, the last major New York production of Tamburlaine was in 1956 on Broadway. Now, audiences have a rare chance to see this disturbingly modern masterpiece. Directed by Michael Boyd, four-time Olivier Award winner and former Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company and starring OBIE and Drama Desk winner John Douglas Thompson, Tamburlaine the Great is a fast-paced 3-hour event plus one 30-minute intermission with food service and pre-ordering available.

Tamburlaine the Great starring John Douglas Thompson, edited and directed by Olivier Award-winner Michael Boyd into one fast-moving three-hour event with choreography by Sam Pinkleton and music composed by Arthur Solari, extends its broadly-acclaimed run for an additional two weeks through January 4 at Theatre for a New Audience, Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place, Theatre for a New Audience Founding Artistic Director Jeffrey Horowitz announced. The original closing date was December 21.

John Douglas Thompson will lead a company of 19 actors playing 60 roles in the first major New York production since Broadway 1956 of Christopher Marlowe's 1587 epic Tamburlaine, Parts I and II, Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director of Theatre for a New Audience, announced. Directed and edited by Olivier Award-winner Michael Boyd, former Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Marlowe's two-part drama will be performed as one 3.5-hour play, plus a 30-minute intermission.

The Royal Shakespeare Company will tour Henry IV Parts I and II, Shakespeare's celebrated history plays, to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Norwich, Salford, Bradford, Bath and Canterbury between September - November 2014. The productions will take to the road after a season at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon between March - September 2014, and before playing at the Barbican in London between November 2014 - January 2015.

Television and movie legend William Shatner will bring his one man show SHATNER'S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT (www.shatnersworld.com) to the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts on January 12, 2014. Tickets range from $32-$77 and also available a $152 VIP ticket that includes a meet and greet with a photo opportunity. Tickets go on sale Friday, November 22 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts box office or through Ticketmaster, 800-745-3000.
