Howard County Arts Council Celebrates 30th Anniversary and More, 3/26

Howard County's signature event, the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County Gala, will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at its new location, The Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College. This year's gala will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Howard County Arts Council! Come Celebrate with us and enjoy our reception including culinary delights from area restaurants and caterers, bid on a fabulous new piece at the silent auction with work by local artists, and enjoy performances throughout the Grand Hall and Art Lounge. At 8 p.m. the musical performances on the Main Stage begin; guests will be invited inside the Smith Theatre for the presentation of the 2010 Howie Awards and the Rising Star Competition, the 2011 Howard County Arts Council's Arts Scholarship Recipients will also be announced!

Mercury Baroque Presents Handel's Messiah 12/10-12/11

This season, Mercury Baroque offers a refreshing approach to Handel's Messiah with three special programs. For the first time ever, Mercury Baroque hosts a Sing-Along performance of Handel's holiday masterpiece on Friday, December 10th at 8:00pm. Families and children alike will enjoy learning about the instruments of the orchestra and Handel's music itself during the Messiah for Families performance on Saturday, December 11th at 10:30am. Lastly, the orchestra performs the rarely heard original ‘Dublin' version of the Messiah on Saturday, December 11th at 8:00pm. A fun pre-concert lecture begins on Saturday at 7:15pm in the Wortham's Green Room.

River North Kicks Off Eat the Beat at the Harris Theatre, 11/12

Highly acclaimed Harris Theater Resident Company, the River North Chicago Dance Company will kick off the second season of the Theater's wildly successful Eat to the Beat lunchtime series on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 12 pm. Designed to help break up the monotony of the workday, audience members are encouraged to enjoy their brown bag lunch while experiencing this exciting jazz-based company in a spectacular, one hour program that will include a sneak preview of a world premiere work by emerging choreographer Sidra Bell. (Park Grill box lunches are also available for advance purchase.) Individual tickets priced at $5, and a subscription to all four programs is $10, ensuring that the program is accessible for anyone to enjoy live dance.
