With more than 8,000 volunteers dressed as clowns, guiding the flight of larger-than-life character balloons, transporting spectators to new worlds on signature floats, bringing the beat in the nation's best marching bands and entertaining the crowds as part of dazzling performance groups, the annual march is jam-packed with entertainment. With more than 3.5 million spectators in New York City and more than 50 million television viewers nationwide, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is America's premiere holiday celebration.

Since the summer of 2005, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPAF) has continued to bring world-class music to Hawaii Island. Over the past fifteen years, HPAF has garnered an international reputation as a premiere training and performance program for aspiring young artists worldwide, many of whom have gone onto significant careers as singers, conductors, directors, orchestral musicians, and teachers. Each season, HPAF assembles an exceptional roster of faculty artists who provide instruction and appear in a series of events for the Big Island community. From June 24 through July 21, HPAF will present nearly 20 public performances at a number of notable island venues from Kona to Hilo, featuring both student and faculty artists.

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today the first wave of guest presenters who will celebrate Denzel Washington at the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award on June 6, 2019, at a Gala Tribute in Los Angeles. Chadwick Boseman, Jodie Foster, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman (2011 honoree), Michael B. Jordan, Issa Rae, Julia Roberts and Cicely Tyson will all be in attendance to pay tribute to Washington's life and work. In addition, multitalented film, television and music video artist Melina Matsoukas (AFI Class of 2005) will receive the 2019 Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal, recognizing her extraordinary creative talents.  

ROCO Announces Its Fifteenth Season 'Coming Of Age'

ROCO (River Oaks Chamber Orchestra) has announced its 2019-20 season, entitled Coming of Age. To celebrate their milestone fifteenth season, ROCO will present a record-breaking 21 new commissions, bringing their total to a whopping 100 distinct premieres since their formation in 2005. Throughout the season, 15 of these new works comprising the FIFteen project: Fanfares, Interludes, and Finales, organized by Mark Buller will be sprinkled among each series.

Grammy Award-winner and two-time Emmy nominee Steve Tyrell returns to Cafe Carlyle, April 16-27. Steve Tyrell is currently celebrating his 14th anniversary performing in Cafe Carlyle's revered holiday slot, having taken over for Bobby Short in 2005 after the legend's passing. The New York Times has declared, "Mr. Tyrell is a terrific storyteller… his sizable voice filters Louis Armstrong through Ray Charles and Dr. John." Ten of his eleven albums have achieved Top 5 status on Billboard's Traditional Pop Charts, with his most recent, A Song For You, reaching #1 earlier this year. In October, Steve Tyrell released a 21-song extended edition of his 2008 chart-topper Back to Bacharach. The album, an homage to Tyrell's friend and mentor, Burt Bacharach, features seven additional Bacharach classics.

Iron Maiden Confirms Return To North America In 2019

IRON MAIDEN will bring the Legacy Of The Beast Tour to North America in 2019 for an extensive series of arena and amphitheater shows produced by Live Nation, including a first ever headline appearance at the Banc of California Stadium in LA. The tour will cover a total of 33 cities right across the U.S.A. and Canada, including Portland, Oregon where they haven't played since 1987 on the Somewhere In Time Tour, Hartford, Connecticut where they last played in 2005, and many other places not visited since the Maiden England 2012/13 Tour. Ted Sperling, Artistic Director of MasterVoices, announced details of the acclaimed ensemble's 77th season, celebrating the power of the human voice to unite, inspire and connect since 1941. The upcoming season will be framed by two major musical events, the New York premiere of a multi-media version of Handel's oratorioIsrael in Egypt performed at Carnegie Hall, and a new adaptation of the Kurt Weill-Ira Gershwin-Moss Hart avant-garde musical, Lady in the Dark, starring Victoria Clark at New York City Center. Lady in the Dark has not been seen in New York since it was presented at New York City Center in 1994 as part of the inaugural Encores! season.

Uncovering the lives and works of four groundbreaking visual artists, American Masters presents an "Artists Flight" of new documentaries, premiering Fridays, August 31-September 14 on PBS (check local listings). Four films tell the stories of four artists: Eva Hesse, the 1960s art world icon who changed art history and women's place in the picture; New York contemporary art maverick Elizabeth Murray; painter Andrew Wyeth, one of America's most popular, but least understood, artists; and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the New York graffiti artist turned '80s art world rock star who died 30 years ago (August 12, 1988). Each film will be available to stream the following day via pbs.org/americanmasters and PBS apps.

The pre-celebratory events leading up to the 25th Anniversary of Life Ball kicked off on Thursday, May 31 in Vienna with the Swarovski Crystal of Hope award presentation to Oscar and Golden Globe winner Charlize Theron on behalf of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. This year's Swarovski Crystal of Hope was presented by Helene von Damm in the name of the Swarovski Foundation. Federal Minister for EU, Art, Culture, and Media Gernot Blumel and Life Ball chairman and organizer Gery Keszler also participated in the presentation.

World premieres of an oratorio about the Underground Railroad that sets narratives of slaves running for freedom and their lives, and a work that sets poems calling for peace in Farsi, Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and English: Sanctuary Road, music by Paul Moravec and text by Mark Campbell based upon the writings of William Still, a conductor for the Underground Railroad; and We Are One for chorus and orchestra by Behzad Ranjbaran, both completed within the last year, will be given their first performances by the Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY) led by Music Director Kent Tritle as the culminating concert of the OSNY's 145th season on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Carnegie Hall.
