Rose Theatre Kingston today announces its 2018 Christmas show, a festive new version with original music of the Brothers' Grimm classic Hansel & Gretel written by Ciaran McConville, who returns to the theatre following last year's successful adaptation of Alice in Winterland. Rosie Jones will direct a cast of local young actors from Rose Youth Theatre led by a team of professional actors. Mercury Theatre Colchester and TBO Productions today announce full casting for the world premiere of their brand-new musical - Pieces of String, with book, music and lyrics by Gus Gowland. Ryan McBryde directs Carol Starks (Jane), Andy Coxon (Ed), Marilyn Cutts (Rose), Ella Dunlop (Gemma), Lauren Hall (Anna), Joel Harper-Jackson (Tom), Craig Mather (Edward) and Gary Wood (Harry). Open auditions were held in Colchester to cast Young Rose, and the part will be alternated by three young people local to the theatre. Pieces of String, designed by 2017 Linbury Prize Finalist Fin Redshaw, opens on 27 April at the Mercury, with previews from 20 April and runs until 5 May. (more...)

Opening at The Dolphin Hotel, prior to the building being extended and completely refurbished before re-opening in 2019, Wright will direct Oliver Towse in the role of Jay Gatsby and he will be joined by Matthew Churcher (George Wilson), Jake Ferretti (Tom Buchanan), Zoe Hakin (Jordan Baker), Michael Lambourne (Nick Carraway), Amie Burns Walker (Daisy) and Bethan Rose Young (Myrtle Wilson) alongside a nine-strong community chorus. Nicholas Hytner will direct the world premiere of Alan Bennett's Allejujah!, previewing at the Bridge Theatre from 11 July 2018 with opening night on 18 July and running to 28 September 2018. Designed by Bob Crowley, Allelujah! will have lighting by Natasha Chivers and music by George Fenton.
