Calgary-based Honens International Piano Competition will begin accepting applications for its eighth edition beginning September 30, 2014. The Competition's Quarterfinals take place in Berlin, London and New York in spring, 2015. Semifinals and Finals take place in Calgary from September 3 to 12, 2015. In the opera world, companies don't have that luxury, particularly at a showplace like the Metropolitan Opera. Thus, we received Richard Strauss's DER ROSENKAVALIER, which made its season debut at the Met on Friday night, offering replacements in the two key roles of Sophie and Octavian, with variable results.
