Previews begin tomorrow, Tuesday, February 27, 2018, for Edward Albee's Three Tall Women. Three Tall Women stars two-time Academy Award-winner Glenda Jackson, Tony Award winner, three-time Emmy Award winner, and 2018 Academy Award nominee Laurie Metcalf, and Tony Award nominee Alison Pill. This production is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello and produced by Scott Rudin. Three Tall Women will have an official opening night on Thursday, March 29 at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street).

EgoPo Classic Theater Partners with the Drexel University Department of Performing Arts to Present the Future of American Playwriting

During their John Guare Festival and the World Premiere of Guare's epic Lydie Breeze Trilogy, EgoPo Classic Theater is collaborating with Drexel University's Performing Arts Department for an evening symposium, Future of American Playwriting, Saturday, February 3 at 4 p.m. The panel will feature John Guare and local playwrights Jacqueline Goldfinger, Bruce Graham, and James Ijames. The panel is moderated by Broad Street Review Editor in Chief Wendy Rosenfield. The symposium will be held in the Stein Auditorium in Nesbitt Hall at Drexel University, 3215 Market Street. EgoPo Classic Theater kicks off its John Guare Festival and its 2017-2018 season with a cabaret production of the rarely seen TONY Award winning rock musical version of Two Gentleman of Verona, directed by Brenna Geffers. John Guare and Mel Shapiro did the musical adaptation from Shakespeare's comedy, with lyrics by Guare and music by Galt MacDermot. This cabaret will run November 9-12 at the Latvian Society Theater, 531 N. 7thStreet.

Inspired by a true story, Six Degrees of Separation follows the trail of a young African-American con man who insinuates himself into the lives of a wealthy, white New York couple, claiming he is the son of actor Sidney Poitier, and that he has just been mugged and all his money is gone. No subject is left untouched in this comic, fast-paced and affecting piece.  Six Degrees is directed by Stuart Bousel, who directed last season's award-winning Grey Gardens.  Six Degrees of Separation runs May 19-June 18 at Custom Made Theatre, 533 Sutter Street, San Francisco, 94102.

THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES is a mixed bag of tone and theme. It is comedy, tragedy, drama, slapstick and farce and then ends in a dark, dark place. Its themes -- The American Dream, mental illness, religion, loneliness, violence and betrayal -- are played out to varying levels of hysteria, which makes for a bewildering night at the theater.

JoAnn Montemurro, co-Artistic Director of Raven Theatre, has announced casting for the company's upcoming production of THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES by John Guare. The play will run on the company's East Stage from April 20 through June 18, 2016 under Montemurro's direction.

Happy Birthday Stockard Channing! In 1971, she made her Broadway debut in Two Gentlemen of Verona - The Musical, working with playwright John Guare. She also appeared on Broadway in 1973 in a supporting role in No Hard Feelings. In 1978, at the age of 33, she took on the role of high school teenager Betty Rizzo in the hit musical Grease. Additional Broadway credits include: They're Playing Our Song, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, Woman in Mind, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, and The Lion in Winter. She is currently starrign on Broadway in Other Desert Cities at the Booth Theatre.

Happy Birthday, John Guare! He is best known as the author of The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, and Landscape of the Body. Guare has also been involved with musical theatre. His libretto with Mel Shapiro for the musical Two Gentlemen of Verona was a success when it premiered in 1971 and was revived in 2005 at the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park. It won the two men the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical. He wrote the songs for Landscape of the Body. In 1999, he revised the book of the Cole Porter musical comedy, Kiss Me, Kate for its Broadway revival. He also wrote the book for the Broadway musical Sweet Smell of Success.

American Repertory Theater of WNY Selects New Performance Space

The American Repertory Theater of WNY, in association with the Sportsman Americana Music Foundation and Buffalo NY's Sportsman Tavern owner Dwane Hall, will be operating out of a new performance space located in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood on 330 Amherst Street (next to the Sportsman Tavern). The flexible black-box 50 seat performance space will retain much of American Repertory Theater of WNY's boutique theater intimacy reputation and, in addition to the remaining 2015-16 season and beyond, will serve as a forum for events including community educational programs, dramatic arts performances, music, film screenings and poetry. The 330 Amherst Street production space will see its first production as American Repertory Theater of WNY presents John Guare's pioneering work The House of Blue Leaves on March 10th and runs until April 10th.
