Returning for its 17th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook will continue to broaden its scope in celebrating the best in American singing and songwriting as interpreted by top performers and rising stars, with events at three Lincoln Center venues.

Bram Stoker's Dracula has been a mainstay at Actors Theatre of Louisville (ATL) since 1995, and has become identified with actor/director William McNulty, who eight years ago was invited to forge his own adaptation of the horror classic. The result only intensified audience demand and acceptance, and the play now stands as the second holiday perennial (with A Christmas Carol) for Louisville's highly acclaimed regional theatre. Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) continues its 55th season with one of the most popular American comedies, The Foreigner, directed by Ken Sonkin in his CCCT debut, from April 3-26, 2015. Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.

Central Works concludes the 2014 season with 'Recipe,' a profoundly funny new work by Michael Gene Sullivan, opening with a press Night on Saturday October 18 at 8 pm and running through November 23 at the historic Berkeley City Club. Sullivan serves up the laughs in this delicious take on a circle of sweet old grandmotherly bakers, who just happen to be dedicated to the armed overthrow of the United States government. But baking pies and cakes isn't enough to satisfy these four intrepid refugees from the sixties, and their burning desire to 'Up the Revolution!' It's one thing to say 'The government is probably listening to my calls,' but what do you do when you find out it's true? If it seems that the government that you call 'a fascist, surveillance state' has specifically targeted you, is specifically watching YOU (it's not paranoia if they really are after you!), then what? In July 2014, Crossville's Cumberland County Playhouse and Dayton's Scopes Trial Festival will produce FRONT PAGE NEWS: Dayton and the World Famous Scopes Trial - a newly adapted play with music - in the historic Rhea County courtroom where William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow clashed over whether Tennessee schools would teach evolution or Biblical creation during Dayton's 1925 'Monkey Trial.'

Larry Shue's career as playwright/actor fell far too short with his sudden death in 1985. He had written two howlingly funny farces The Nerd and The Foreigner, both of which have become cult classics. Each farce exposes an eclectic group of people to a mishmash of insanity. There is an underdog at the center who fakes his identity, and as a result of this switch in role-playing, the total chaos which arises bears unexpected fruit and a major miracle or two for one and all. Now onstage at Crown City Theatre in NoHo, a superb ensemble of actors bring off The Foreigner with tremendous skill and gusto.

In 1984 Tod Booth was hired to direct at the then-named Alhambra Dinner Theatre. The show? I Ought to be in Pictures starring Claude Akins. Five weeks later, on a return trip to watch a show, while sitting at table B15 with owner Leon Simon, Tod made an offer to buy the Alhambra. The deal was done on a napkin. In two years he took the gross revenue from $700,000 to $2,500,000 and was named 'Entrepreneur of the Year' by the Jacksonville Business Journal. The rest, as Tod says, 'is history.' While not necessarily billed as an anniversary, it's hard to miss the parallels between the 1984 production and the 2014 production: Tod is still directing and the Alhambra is still bringing in big-name guest stars, this time Richard Karn from television's Home Improvement. I Ought to be in Pictures opens February 12, 2014 at the nation's longest running professional dinner theater.
