San Francisco, November 11, 2015 - Ruth A. Felt, founder and President of San Francisco Performances--one of the country's most respected performing arts presenting organizations--has announced that she will retire from the nonprofit she created and has led for 36 years in the fall of 2016. Ms. Felt, who is 76, makes this announcement at a time when San Francisco Performances is at a particularly strong place artistically, administratively and financially and with artists and programming details already in place for two upcoming seasons, according to Patrick McCabe, Chair of the Board of Trustees. Since 1980 San Francisco Performances annually has presented the world's leading artists in genres and series including vocal music, piano, chamber music, jazz, guitar, contemporary dance, young masters, virtuosi and special events. Hallmarks of the organization, considered a national leader in the field, include presentation of top-name performers in intimate venues including the Herbst Theatre, an award-winning education program, long-standing annual relationships with artists and artists-in-residence and support of in-depth, thematic programming that fosters artists and audiences to explore ideas and ideals behind the creative spirit. A gala benefit honoring Ms. Felt and San Francisco Performances is being planned for September 30, 2016, with details and artists to be announced. A search for a new San Francisco Performances President is underway led by a Board search committee. For more information about San Francisco Performances, visit www.sfperformances.org .
It's a 'New World,' when East joins hands with West for Pacific Symphony's upcoming concert combining one of classical music's most 'American' symphonies on a program with Chinese influences, plus a little German and Czech thrown in for good measure. Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, subtitled 'From the New World,' artfully melds the rich folk melodies of America with classical techniques and represents both the triumph and tragedy the Czech composer saw in American music when he visited in 1892, as well as his music's impact on Americans.

Orange County, Calif.—Oct. 26, 2015—It's a “New World,” when East joins hands with West for Pacific Symphony's upcoming concert combining one of classical music's most “American” symphonies on a program with Chinese influences, plus a little German and Czech thrown in for good measure. Dvo?ák's Symphony No. 9, subtitled “From the New World,” artfully melds the rich folk melodies of America with classical techniques and represents both the triumph and tragedy the Czech composer saw in American music when he visited in 1892, as well as his music's impact on Americans. Surrounding this audience favorite are Bruch's popular Violin Concerto No. 1, which embodies almost every desirable trait in the Romantic violin repertory. The concerto is performed by internationally acclaimed Chinese violinist Dan Zhu—praised as “an artist of affecting humility and beautiful tone production” by The Strad magazine; plus, Chinese composer Li Huanzhi's Spring Festival Overture—a work of joyous celebration—all led by Chinese-born guest conductor, En Shao.

The 1980s are often remembered as the era of over-produced power-ballads, bright neon colors, ozone offending hair, superficial beauty, and obnoxiously shallow people. For better or for worse, TOTALLY ELECTRIC, Gen Y Productions latest musical, falls victim to many of the least desirable traits of the decade that it sets out to lampoon. Fortunately however, the show, playing at The Abbey in Downtown Orlando through September 28th, is also buoyed by some of the decade's most hummable songs from the likes of R.E.O. Speedwagon, The Go-Go's, and Tiffany, with a little Reba McEntire thrown in for good measure.
