Rising Phoenix Repertory Artistic Director Daniel Talbott to Offer Playwriting Workshop, 6/15-8/3

After helping produce a full season of readings and new work at Rattlestick and the critical success and sold out runs of Rising Phoenix Rep's first two Off-Broadway productions, with Piece by Piece Productions-of SLIPPING at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and TOO MUCH MEMORY at the New York Theatre Workshop's Fourth Street Theatre-Daniel Talbott, Artistic Director of Caffe Cino Fellowship winning company Rising Phoenix Rep will teach a summer playwriting workshop in the intimate and evocative backroom pub space at the Seventh Street Small Stage.

Prepare to be transported to the year 3000 for the return of Fry, Bender, Leela and the usual cast of twelve-dimensional space monsters. Back by popular demand, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's brilliantly subversive animated sci-fi comedy 'Futurama' debuts its sixth season of 12 all-new half-hour episodes on Thursday, June 24 at 10:00 p.m. on COMEDY CENTRAL, kicking off with a special hour-long block of two back-to-back new episodes. The series also reaches a milestone on Thursday, September 2, when it celebrates its 100th episode.

Drilling Company Ends Run of FAITH Short Plays Project 5/23

Declaring 'We all believe in something...don't we?,' The Drilling Company has set a short play project on the subject. The troupe (www.drillingcompany.org), known as a home for award-winning writers, has saved the theater where they made their home for the last ten years and in September 2009, assumed the lease on the venue formerly known as the 78th Street Theatre Lab, citing their faith in the space. The production will end its run on May 23rd.

In 1999-2000, The New Group presented the premiere of Marc Wolf's solo documentary play, Another American: Asking and Telling, which won an Obie award and went on to tour the country. Ten years later, The New Group revisits this influential piece of theater in the context of the ongoing debate about the U.S. policy on LGBT citizens in the military.

Declaring 'We all believe in something...don't we?,' The Drilling Company has set a short play project on the subject. The troupe (www.drillingcompany.org), known as a home for award-winning writers, has saved the theater where they made their home for the last ten years and in September 2009, assumed the lease on the venue formerly known as the 78th Street Theatre Lab, citing their faith in the space. To mark the occasion, at the time of the takeover they commissioned nine emerging playwrights to write short works on the subject of faith. The entire project, titled 'Faith,' will be presented as a two hour evening May 6 to 23.

A collection of authors and actors including Stephen Colbert, young adult novelist Libba Bray (winner of the 2010 Printz Award for Going Bovine), Artistic Director of the Public Theater Oskar Eustis, novelist Jayne Anne Phillips (National Book Award finalist Lark & Termite) and novelist and Studio 360 host Kurt Andersen read from and discuss the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill A Mockingbird at Symphony Space's Thalia Book Club on April 28 at 8:00 p.m. The event, which takes place on the 84th birthday of author Harper Lee, marks the 50th anniversary of the watershed work. The evening will include readings, discussion and an audience Q&A. Tickets are $24, $20 for members.

Signature Theatre to Conclude '10-'11 Season with Kushner's THE ILLUSION

Signature Theatre Company has announced the final production for their 20th Anniversary 2010-2011 Season, celebrating the work of Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner. Joining the previously announced first New York Revival of Parts 1 and 2 of ANGELS IN AMERICA: A GAY FANTASIA ON NATIONAL THEMES and the New York premiere of THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE TO CAPITALISM AND SOCIALISM WITH A KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES will be THE ILLUSION, Kushner's freely adapted version of Pierre Corneille's L'Illusion Comique, directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Mayer. The production will be presented in Spring, 2011 at the Peter Norton Space, (555 West 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues). Dates and casting will be announced at a later date.
