For eight of the last ten years, Wicked Lit has created theatre among the dead - quite literally - at Mountain View Mausoleum in Altadena. Three stories adapted from classic literature have been the norm most recently, with a fourth story functioning as a framing device to connect the pieces and bring a sense of camaraderie to the crowd. The result is an exceedingly entertaining evening of indoor-outdoor theatre in one of the spookiest venues in Southern California.

Vibrant and expansive, GADADU's second album Outer Song builds on the sparse, soulful sound of their 2015 debut LP. Orchestral arrangements, R&B grooves and jazz harmonies bring to life over three years of songwriting by bandleaders Hannah Selin and Nicki Adams. After recording live with the full band at The Bunker in Brooklyn, Hannah and Nicki recorded overdubs in repurposed spaces including a subway platform, a deconstructed piano and a college gymnasium. GADADU later collaborated with The Rhythm Method quartet to record strings on 'The Lion,' 'Makeshift Constellations' and 'Chided.' Outer Song takes the listener on a kaleidoscopic journey, from gamelan-inspired prepared piano in 'The Lion,' to seven-part vocal harmonies in 'Exquisite Corpse' and oatmeal box backbeats in 'Julia.' Hannah's vocals move nimbly from the murky depths of uncertainty to crystalline moments of joy, carving striking melodies through forests of synthesizers, mellotron and strings.

Olden Yolk is a New York-based group whose penchant for dystopian folk, abstract poeticism, and motorik rhythms have enveloped them in a sound uniquely of-the-moment yet simultaneously time-tested. The project is led by songwriters, vocalists, and multi-instrumentalists Shane Butler and Caity Shaffer. Their debut full-length, Trouble in Mind, ruminates on questions surrounding love, self-doubt, and locating autonomy amidst burgeoning unrest. These songs are ecstatic odes to the life of the city; to the subway platforms, kiosks, and monuments which enliven and encompass our collectivity, elevating into an urban-psychedelia.
