Smokey Joe's Cafe-The Songs of Leiber and Stoller transports audiences to the golden age of rock, rhythm and blues this spring at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Director Randy Johnson returns to Arena Stage following the success of A Night with Janis Joplin (which enjoyed two runs at Arena Stage followed by a subsequent run on Broadway) to helm this Grammy Award-winning tribute to legendary songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, which originally opened on Broadway in 1995 and became the longest running musical revue, topping 2,000 performances. Bursting with hit tunes including 'Hound Dog,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' 'Stand by Me,' 'Love Potion #9' and 'On Broadway,' Smokey Joe's Cafe showcases choreography by Parker Esse (Arena Stage's The Music Man, Oklahoma!) and music direction by Victor Simonson (Center Stage's A Civil War Christmas, Arena Stage's 3 Mo' Divas) and runs April 25-June 8, 2014 in the Fichandler Stage.

The Old Globe's 2012-13 Season will feature the World Premieres of two new musicals: Allegiance - A New American Musical by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak. The season also includes George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion in celebration of the classic play's 100th anniversary and the World Premiere of a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House by Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey and Kirsten Brandt. Two recent Broadway hits will make their San Diego debuts at the Globe: David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People and Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities. Music Theatre of Wichita will celebrate its Fabulous Fortieth Season with Sunset Boulevard, July 6 - 10. Sunset Boulevard is the haunting musical drama that Andrew Lloyd Webber created out of the 1950 film noir classic. Silent film star Norma Desmond reclusively lives forgotten in her opulent Hollywood mansion, until struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis stumbles into her web. 'You're Norma Desmond,' he realizes. 'You used to be big!' ... prompting her famous response, 'I AM big. It's the pictures that got small!' Two of Norma's ballads, 'With One Look' and 'As If We Never Said Goodbye,' became popular hits, but the whole score is terrific. Mark Madama is directing this one, too, with spectacular new sets by J Branson.
