The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is offering more, more, more for entertainment fans next month: more shows, more stars, more music, more laughs, more fun for everybody.

KCRW announced today the line-up for the 2018 Masquerade, L.A.'s iconic Halloween extravaganza, featuring Santigold (DJ Set), White Denim, Wajatta, D?M-FunK, Cherry Glazerr, Shannon Shaw, Brothers Griiin, Lucent Dossier, as well as KCRW DJs Gary Calamar, Raul Campos, Chris Douridas, Jose Galvan, Marion Hodges, Travis Holcombe, Anne Litt, Liza Richardson, Jeremy Sole, Anthony Valadez, and Dan Wilcox, on Saturday, October 27, from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. KCRW's Masquerade, dubbed “legendary” by Time Out, and “the best costume party in town” by Edge is a feast for the senses, a glamorous and gritty mash-up of eccentricity, featuring DJs, bands, special musical guests, performance artists, and much more.

Highlighting the groundswell of innovation occurring at smaller-budget orchestras and youth orchestras across the country, the California Symphony is just one of seventeen orchestras that have received $30,000 American Orchestras' Futures Fund grants from the League of American Orchestras, made possible with the generous support of the Ann & Gordon Getty Foundation.

Director/Actor/Writer LARRY EISENBERG earned his MFA from CalArts, received a DramaLogue Award for the world premiere adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's Stories for Children and has directed numerous productions at GRT. His favorites include The Poor of New York, Trip to Bountiful, Over the River and Through the Woods and his original play, Nautilus, which was later turned into a feature film. He currently serves as one of the two co-artistic directors at the Group Rep. He is currently directing Lost in Yonkers at Group rep which will have its official opening Friday, September 8. Performances are Wednesday – Saturday evenings 7/5 – 7/8, Today – Saturday 7/11 – 7/15 (8pm curtain), and Saturday matinees 7/8 and 7/15 (2pm curtain).

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

Dear Bookworks Bookworm, I read a book this month that I had every intention of liking, but didn't. It had a story line that interested me but the characters were one dimensional and flat and the writing that was not worth writing home about. Rather than review a book that disappoints, I decided to review a movie that I had just seen with Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche, Words and Pictures. This is a movie well worth the ticket price. It is always a pleasure seeing a movie where actors do what they should be doing best, acting and where writers are doing what they should be doing best, writing.
