Perhaps the most interesting work is that which can't be easily categorised; which seems to drift in on its own breeze, distinct and compelling. Ryan Von Gonten's new album is certainly one such thing, calmly moving between genres and influences with such ease and consideration you barely even notice the change. Featuring eight wonderfully-detailed songs, Truthlikeness is a remarkably assured debut, equally comparable to the likes of Beach House and Youth Lagoon as it is Neil Young and Cocteau Twins.

Tucson psych-rock purveyors Mute Swan have been releasing swirling, dreamy jams since 2014, and today the band is releasing their latest with Post-Punk. The hazy “Enough Fun” video follows a ragtag band of American one-percenters cruising in the Mercedes, burning money with a pope-like figure, looking as if it could be the result of the eccentrics of The Garden making a video for Galaxie 500 and leaving the VHS out to melt in the desert sun. Although sonically light and airy, the lyrics allude to frustration with the unchecked power of today's wealthy elite. Explains vocalist Mike Barnett, 'America is having a melt down right now. This song is about that. With fuzz.' It's a taste of the underground DIY oasis blooming in the Sonoran Desert, a longtime source of inspiration and refuge for the art community.

In anticipation of the upcoming release the album is streaming in full at The Big Takeover. About the album The Big Takeover says, 'Spacey but not alienating, loud yet still light, painting expansive and vivid vistas of sound against a sweepingly dynamic and melodic backdrop, Moving Panoramas make captivating dream rock from Austin, Texas...Sky-wide sonics, propulsive tempos, kinetic rhythms, sweet, heathery vocals, and a shadowy Western plains atmosphere move through the LP. The instrumentation creates a rich and textured picture that is accentuated by the warm and beguiling vocals.' Additonally Moving Panoramas' Leslie Sisson spoke with The Austin Chronicle about the trauma and tragedy that that inspired many of the songs featured on In Two. Read the full article HERE.

The video for 'Partyin' Is Such Sweet Sorrow' from Tristen's acclaimed record, Sneaker Waves (Modern Outsider; 2017), premieres today via BUST Magazine. In the video, Tristen flips the script, writing and singing the song from the perspective of a man. Through this process, she scratched the surface of a greater problem, the lack of women writers and complex female characters. Thus, came the creation of its visual and accompanying essay titled 'Is Art Imitating Life or Just Limiting Women.'

'In Tune' which features Matthew Caws from Nada Surf premiered at PopMatters and can also be shared at Soundcloud. About the song PopMatters says,''In Tune,' proves that comparisons to Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, and the 4AD imprint during the 1990s haven't been off the mark. But the single further establishes songwriter Leslie Sisson's formidable powers for creating riveting narrative tension across a hook-laden track that provides the perfect balance of introspection and uplift. Fans of shoegaze and the poppier turns of the Cure will no doubt celebrate this single as a new favorite.' Moving Panoramas have an Austin record release show coming up on February 22 at Barracuda (tickets).
