From July 31-August 4, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival presents 3e étage, soloists of the Paris Opera Ballet, in the Ted Shawn Theatre. This performance marks the company's first U.S. appearance since a sold-out U.S. debut during Festival 2011. Traveling from France, this contemporary ballet company will perform the world premiere of Le Pillow Thirteen, a suite of new ballets and beloved favorites commissioned specifically for Jacob's Pillow. Under the direction of choreographer Samuel Murez, star dancers from the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet, including Murez himself, combine impeccable ballet technique with vastly imaginative style in this exclusive program.
Company C Contemporary Ballet founder and Artistic Director Charles Anderson has announced details of the Company's 2014 season of two programs plus a benefit gala in San Francisco and Walnut Creek with performances January 30 through May 11, 2014, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and ODC Theater in San Francisco and the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The 12th season will feature a wide range of the kinds of ballets that have set the barre high for this 14-member Bay Area Company, which will return to New York for its third season there at the Joyce Theater August 9 and 10. Smuin Ballet ends its season with an invigorating lineup of fresh choreography, presenting the West Coast premiere of the bright ballet Petal by acclaimed choreographer Helen Pickett, set to music by Philip Glass and Thomas Montgomery Newman. In addition, Bay Area audiences will get their first look at Darrell Grand Moultrie's JAZZIN', a sultry ballet set to music by Wynton Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Andy Razaf. The bill also includes Michael Smuin's romantic and pastoral Chants d'Auvergne.
