DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre to Present TO SEE THE STARS, 4/3-5

As we celebrate Women's History Month this March, DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre is preparing to bring the historic struggle of women's rights and equal pay to the community theatre stage. Homeschoolers from York County and beyond have partnered with DreamWrights for the production of To See The Stars for five performances from April 3-5.

Today, March 13 - 16, Pontine Theatre presents the final production of it's premiere Cafe-Lyceum Series. This program, FAMILIAR FIELDS: The Community of Sarah Orne Jewett, is based on the life and work of the 19th century South Berwick, Maine author. The presentation explores issues of community as reflected in Jewett's stories, and the ways in which her regional portraits speak about the essential New England character The presentation combines food, friends, and discussion along with excerpts from Pontine's original adaptation of Jewett's The Country of the Pointed Firs, and Dunnet Landing Stories.

Following Transport Group's 2011 production of Queen of the Mist, our 20th Century Project continues into its second decade (1910 - 1920) with an urgent new revival of John Van Druten's beloved classic, I Remember Mama, directed by Jack Cummings III. The production will be performed at The Gym at Judson, March 16-April 20, 2014. Opening night is set for March 30.

Luna Park In Coney Island Shows Off New Vertical Lift Steel Roller Coaster - The Thunderbolt!

Roller coaster fanatics from around the world have a new reason to visit Luna Park in Coney Island this year. This Memorial Day Weekend, the amusement venture will be welcoming its first-ever vertical lift steel roller coaster, The Thunderbolt, to its lineup of joy rides. The new coaster will sit where the original wooden Thunderbolt thrilled riders from the 1920's through the 1980's, and will be the first roller coaster in the area since 1910 to send riders upside-down in a vertical loop. This will be Coney Island's first custom roller coaster since 1927, the year the Cyclone Roller Coaster was built.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, the 26th Annual Holiday Historic House Tour, sponsored by the Queens Historical Society, will kick off the holiday season with seven sites participating. Each of these NYC landmarks will offer special activities, refreshments and a glimpse at what life was once like during the holidays. Each site has its own unique story to tell that will be featured along with special holiday programming for the tour.

The Barbican today announced a stellar program of events for spring and summer 2014, pushing the boundaries of all major art forms for its diverse audiences. This new program builds on the most successful year ever for the Barbican, with attendances for events at the Centre exceeding 1 million for the first time, an increase of 36% on 2011/12. In this Olympics year, box office receipts also rose 33%, and the Barbican's commercial income increased by 35%.

Directed by Becki McDonald, who makes some excellent directing choices with her large cast of fifteen adult and children actors by combining brief oratory, traditional dialogue, and injecting cast members into the audience to DRAW viewers dead smack into the action. This created a theater experience that is equally educational, entertaining, and thought-provoking. Use of mixed media was also a component but the limitations of the performance space really hampered full immersion into the subject matter created by Robertson and Spencer in their script.

In 'The Past Is Still Ahead' by Sophia Romma, one of Russia's most ill-fated and controversial cult poets of the twentieth century, Marina Tsvetaeva, revisits the tumultuously tragic and sexy events of her life--just before she succumbs to 'suicide' at the hands of the Soviet Secret Police in 1941 while exiled in Siberia. The play will be presented by Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival tonight, July 23, 27 and 28 at The Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, 4th floor, NYC, directed by Francois Rochaix.

The famed L.A. Derby Dolls, for the third year in a row, will host the critically-acclaimed fundraiser. The evening features a bursting expo of art, science, music and comedy, plus an all-star roller derby bout featuring the L.A. Derby Dolls vs. the San Diego Derby Dolls. Proceeds will benefit DSALA's efforts to support those born with Trisomy 21/Down syndrome living in greater Los Angeles.
