BWW Review: Sound Theatre Company's Unapologetic HOODOO LOVE Doesn't Romanticize
by Amelia Reynolds - Jul 19, 2017

Sound Theatre Company's 'Hoodoo Love' is an important piece that's neither romantic nor for the faint of heart. In collaboration with The Hansberry Project, the fabric of Katori Hall's depression-era tragedy is original blues music, folk magic, and the dismal realities of being a black woman in 1930's Tennessee.

BWW Review: Readers Theatre Series: BENT at The 5 & Dime
by Heather Vollman - Jul 19, 2017

BENT doesn't request the audience's permission to turn your heart upside down. It forcefully attacks your places of comfort in exchange for a meaningful conversation, for provoking consideration, for basic human empathy.

BWW Review: CRAZY FOR YOU at Theatre In The Park
by Alan Portner - Jun 19, 2017

'Crazy For You,' now playing at the Theatre In The Park in Shawnee Mission Park, is the theatrical equivalent of the 'Little Engine That Could.' It represents the fifth generation of musical shows based on George and Ira Gershwin's 1930 'Girl Crazy' score. Even though the original version kicked off the careers of Ethel Merman and Ginger Rogers, none of these shows remotely resembles any of its siblings.

BWW Review: Cole Porter Meets Jimmy Durante as Encores! Reconstructs THE NEW YORKERS
by Michael Dale - Mar 26, 2017

The authors who wrote the books for even the most successful Broadway musical comedies of the 1920s and 30s often get a bum rap for the flimsiness of their plots and the nonsensical nature of their gags.

BWW Review: ELEANOR & PARK by Rainbow Rowell
by Bonnie Lynn Wagner - Mar 24, 2017

What makes ELEANOR & PARK so extraordinary is, in fact, how ordinary it is. How everyday. Life is mundane. We make our way through each day, and there isn't always something to set it apart from all of our yesterdays and tomorrows.

BWW Review: I Got Drunk at A Noise Within's KING LEAR - Here's What Happened Next
by George Brietigam - Mar 20, 2017

If American Horror Story decided to do a season set in the time of ancient mythical English kings, you would get Julia Rodriguez-Elliott's King Lear. I highly recommend this eerie interpretation of one of Shakespeare's most produced works.

BWW Feature: Our Favorite Moments of 2016
by Kyle Christopher West - Dec 31, 2016

By all accounts, 2016 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. Fortunately for DFW audiences, the local theatre community and many of the touring productions delivered nothing short of a stellar year, setting quite a high bar for upcoming performances. As we say goodbye to another December, we'd like to look back on a handful of memories that stood out among the long list of Playbills we've gathered. And like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these live theatre moments will be remembered as a few of our favorite things. We present this list in no particular order, and without awards or titles bestowed upon those listed. To everyone who contributed to the DFW theatre community in 2016, we thank you for sharing your time and talents with us.
