The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run October 4 to November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run October 4 - 8. Along with my Broadway debut in 'On the Town', I'm thrilled to be making my blogging debut. You can expect to hear about all the exciting happenings with our show leading up to our big opening night on October 16th. This has been an incredible journey. An exhilarating three-week whirlwind of rehearsals has led us to our first week of tech! We pretty much attempted our first stop and start run through of our show by the middle of our second week of rehearsals. The remainder of the time, our director John Rando and choreographer Josh Bergasse chipped at the bit, getting the show in tip top shape before we got into the theatre. (more...)

Variations Theatre Group will present Eric Bogosian's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play TALK RADIO beginning tonight, September 12th, with the Opening Night set for next Tuesday, September 16th at The Chain Theatre. Inspired by the 1984 murder of controversial shock jock Alan Berg, TALK RADIO is set in a Cleveland radio station over the course of Barry Champlain's two-hour broadcast as he's being scrutinized that night by producers fixated on taking the show national, and fueled as always by coffee, cocaine and Jack Daniel's. Barry's jousts with his unseen callers-ranging from a white supremacist to a woman obsessed with her garbage disposal-are interspersed with confrontations by his ex-deejay pal and his sometime girlfriend/producer.
