Now living in London with Leo, Gilda is visited by Otto, who has become a successful and sought-after artist. Just as abruptly, Gilda then goes off with Ernest, a stuffy English art dealer leaving both Otto and Leo to find solace both physically and emotionally in each other. The following year, now married to Ernest, Gilda has become a successful decorator in New York. Her seemingly complacent life is disrupted by the return of both Otto and Leo, who have come to take her back with them.

World renown British actor/playwright Ray Cooney will be performing the zany farce Cash on Delivery, written by his son Michael Cooney, on the mainstage of the El Portal in Noho December 3-20. Cooney performed Out of Order at the El Portal in 2001, and was a tremendous hit. In our conversation Cooney, who was bestowed the honor of OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the Queen, and wife Linda talk about the play, and among other topics, theatre and its importance in our world right now. Linda is a landscape painter and former actress, and her work will be exhibited in the El Portal lobby during the run of the play and on to January 1, 2016.

The play will be performed in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles and will be completely accessible for English-speaking audiences. English translation is by Kristen Hung. This U.S. premiere will be presented by Yangtze Rep tonight, June 25 to July 12 at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, East Village.

'Kafka's Quest, a.k.a. Kafka/Samsa' is a quasi-realistic play by the late playwright Lu Hauser that imagines the family life of Gregor Samsa, the tragic victim of Kafka's 'Metamorphosis,' and his friendship with an historic Yiddish Theater actor and actress in Prague, prior to the events of the famed novella. Set in Prague in 1912, it portrays Gregor Samsa (the name Kafka personified himself with in the book) as torn between his father, who wants to keep him on the straight and narrow with a full time job, and his friendship with artists of the Yiddish Theater, who want him to join and write for them. His father's bankruptcy forces Gregor to become the breadwinner of the family, which has been forced to take in two mysterious lodgers to make ends meet. The back and forth between the two poles of Gregor's life will culminate in 'The Metamorphosis.' Theater for the New City will present the play's world premiere February 26 to March 15, directed by Manfred Bormann.
