The Broad Stage presents Kybele Dance Theater, founded in 2003 in Los Angeles by Turkish/American choreographer Seda Aybay, with two premieres - Gune? Do?udan Yukselir (Sun Rises from the East) and Noir, as well as Sonsuz, today, September 14 at 7:30pm. Founder and artistic director Seda Aybay said, "I want to create work that build bridges between genders, races, cultures and communities that are relatable to everyone."

New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players 44th season kicks off with Gilbert & Sullivan's The Yeomen of the Guard which tells the story of a falsely accused prisoner in the Tower of London, the two girls who loved him, and an out of work itinerant jester in grand and colorful fashion - with humor and a touch of pathos. Performances are on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, October 28 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (E. 68th Street between Park & Lexington Avenues near Lexington).

This morning, Film Independent announced the nominations for the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for Film Independent's year-round programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote diversity in the industry. Film Independent President Josh Welsh presided over the press conference held at the W Hotel in Hollywood, with actors Gemma Chan and Molly Shannon presenting the nominations. Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (LBC) announced today it will host its annual Music for Schools celebration on Saturday, May 12 between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., featuring performances by more than 215 youth from local schools who are supported by LBC's instrument lending library, the only program of its kind in the Bay Area and one of the few in the country. I've been to movies where the audience interacts with the actors on screen, but never have I been to a play like that. Surprisingly, it wasn't disruptive. It almost felt natural. The patron interaction to 'The Foreigner' was nearly as comical as the play. Director Miguel E. Rodriguez warned that (paraphrasing here) if we have half as much watching as he did directing, then we were about to have a fun night.
