Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. The Broadway community mourns the loss of Geoffrey Holder, the 1975 Tony Award -winning director and costume designer of The Wiz who died on Sunday at the age of 84. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory Friday, October 10th, at exactly 7:45pm for one minute. This will be the 5th production in the show's history. Running in the MAX Theatre today, October 7 - November 9, Signature's production will include several brand new songs by Mel Marvin and Bob Satuloff and a reimagined script that John Bishop worked on until his death in 2006.

When asked at the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame concert if she'd like to star in a Hollywood Bowl summer show, she responded: 'I'd like to do Annie Get Your Gun, to be perfectly honest! I may be a little old for it... but I could find something else!'
Lena Hall has won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her role as 'Yitzhak' in Broadway's HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. Hall starred as Nicola in the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots.
Soho Rep presents the world premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins's An Octoroon, directed by Soho Rep. Artistic Director Sarah Benson. Last night, Roundabout Theatre Company honored Sam Mendes with the Jason Roberts Award for Excellence in Theatre. The criterion for this award is to have made an 'indelible impact on the theatre world.' The award was named after the founder of Roundabout and is given each year in remembrance of his own impact on the theatre world.

Performance Space 122, an East Village contemporary performance hub, announces the co-chairs of their Give Performance Space campaign, which coincides with the renovation of their over 30-year home at 150 1st Avenue. Give Performance Space is a capacity campaign to launch Performance Space 122's growth as an organization with the goal of better serving the artists and audiences of New York City. The co-chairs are acclaimed actor, photographer and activist Alan Cumming; producer, writer and director Stella Schnabel and PS122 Board Vice President Charles L. Kerr, partner at international law office Morrison & Foerster.
Anthony Warlow, Australia's leading star of musical theatre, returns home this June with Tony-Award winner Faith Prince in an exclusive concert event titled Direct From Broadway. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for the world-premiere historical drama Camp David, penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright and directed by Artistic Director Molly Smith. Based on true events surrounding the 1978 Camp David Accords, the play follows the 13-day meeting between President Jimmy Carter, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat as they attempted to create the impossible: peace in the Middle East. The production features Tony Award nominee Hallie Foote (Broadway's Dividing the Estate) as Rosalynn Carter, Egyptian actor and activist Khaled Nabawy (Kingdom of Heaven, Fair Game) as Anwar Sadat, Tony Award winner Ron Rifkin (Alias, Broadway's Cabaret) as Menachem Begin and Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas (The Waltons) as President Jimmy Carter. Camp David runs March 21-May 4, 2014 in the Kreeger Theater.

Gerard Mortier and the New York City Opera have commissioned Charles Wuorinen, an American composer, to turn Annie Proulx's Brokeback Mountain into a work for the operatic stage. Proulx wrote the libretto, and Wuorinen completed the opera in 2012. The premiere was postponed after New York City Opera's General Director, Gerard Mortier, resigned. The project was then again taken up by Mortier at the Teatro Real in Madrid and is set to premiere today, January 28, 2014.
