The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive first look at BBC America's new drama THE MUSKETEERS, which debuts this Saturday, June 22nd at 9:00pm ET. The show is set on the streets of seventeenth century Paris, where law and order is more of an idea than a reality. In addition to being King Louis XIII's personal bodyguards, Athos, Aramis and Porthos stand resolutely for social justice, honor, valor, love – and for the thrill of it. The 10-part season (10 x 75mins), created by Adrian Hodges (My Week With Marilyn, Primeval).
One for All and All for One! Join Porthos, Athos, Aramis and the young D'Artangian, as they adventure across France, Swashing their Buckles and Buckling Their Swashes all in an attempt to foil the evil machinations of Rochefort, Malady De Winter, and the nefarious Cardinal Richelieu. And with any great adventure comes plenty of action and romance, as well as some grand comedy. The Three Musketeers promises to take you on an adventure you will never forget, with plenty of fun for the whole family.
If an Alexandre Dumas version of the San Francisco Charles Dickens Christmas Fair existed, I imagine its skits would look somewhat like Playhouse Merced's current production of "The Three Musketeers." That's no surprise, since writer, director Micah Chandler specializes in sword fights and teaches his own "Dogs of War stage combat performing arts troupe." And Merced's "Musketeers" feels very much so like a community troupe putting together a show. It comes with those low-budget kickers and generally read-through-type acting, but it also includes clear standouts in its cast, a near-perfect script and fantastic scenic design by Corey Strauss.
