BWW Review: PUNK ROCK Packs a Punch

Zeitgeist Stage Company's production of Simon Stephens' play, inspired by the Columbine shooting, hits very close to home on the heels of the Newtown and Boston Marathon tragedies. Director David J. Miller and an outstanding cast of teens and young adults handle the material responsibly and realistically. PUNK ROCK is an important play with an articulate message that needs to be heard over and over and over again.

Dad's Garage Theatre is Moving; Looks to Build New, Permanent Home

It's official. At the ripe ol' age of 18, mom and dad are kicking Dad's Garage out of the house. Dad's Garage Theatre has received notice that its building, as well as the entire property at 280 Elizabeth Street, is changing ownership and will be redeveloped in the coming months. The team is optimistic that they will finish out the remainder of their season in the current space and will be performing as per usual through at least July 31st. Dad's Garage will be moving out soon after and will continue performing at its new temporary home at 7 Stages in Little Five Points beginning in August. While in the temporary home, Dad's Garage anticipates launching a capital campaign to raise funds to build a new, permanent home.

'Death Wish' Director Michael Winner Dies at Age 77

The Assoicated Press reports that British filmmaker and 'Death Wish' director Michael Winner has died at the age of 77. The news was shared by his wife Geraldine this morning. Winner passed away at his home in London following an illness.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced an international collaboration today between Miami's GableStage and the Royal Shakespeare Company to present Tarell Alvin McCraney's radical new staging of ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA. Directed and edited by McCraney, ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA will premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Stratford-upon-Avon home in November 2013 before coming to the United States to play at Miami's GableStage at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in January 2014 followed by The Public Theater in late January 2014.

Founded in 1979 by its artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience is a modern classical theatre that produces Shakespeare alongside other major authors in a dialogue that spans centuries. Its 33rd season, the last before moving to its first home adjacent to BAM in the new Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District, features boldly diverse works from William Shakespeare, Franz Kafka in a theatrical adaptation by Colin Teevan, Samuel Beckett and Wallace Shawn. In a co-production with The Public Theater, Mr. Shawn's plays will be part of The Wallace Shaw-Andre Gregory Project.

'Partners in Preservation' Selects Helen Hayes Theatre's Second Stage as Finalist; Public Vote thru 5/21

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director and Casey Reitz, Executive Director) has been chosen as one of the 40 finalists in this year's Partners in Preservation program, which awards up to $250,000 to the cultural institutions that receive the most votes from its supporters. If selected, Second Stage Theatre will use the grant money to restore the facade of the company's future home, the 100-year old Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway. The finalists were presented by celebrity guest Katharine McPhee of NBC's hit "Smash" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Thursday, April 26. Second Stage at the Helen Hayes Theatre is the only Broadway theatre selected as a finalist.
