Jonas Kaufmann will sing the title role in a new staging of Wagner's final opera, Parsifal,conducted by Daniele Gatti and directed by Francois Girard in his Met debut. The new production of Wagner's transcendent masterpiece will open February 15 with an extraordinary cast of Wagnerian stars, including Katarina Dalayman as the mysterious Kundry; Peter Mattei in his role debut as Amfortas, the wounded King of the Knights of the Holy Grail; Rene Pape as the wise knight Gurnemanz; Evgeny Nikitin as the evil Klingsor; and Runi Brattaberg in his Met debut as Titurel, Amfortas's father. The production team for Girard's staging includes set designer Michael Levine, costume designer Thibault Vancraenenbroeck, lighting designer David Finn, video designer Peter Flaherty, choreographer Carolyn Choa, and dramaturg Serge Lamothe. ADAM KANTOR (Rent) and BETSY WOLFE (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) will co-star in the highly anticipated revival of JASON ROBERT BROWN's musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS at Second Stage Theatre. The beloved two-character musical, which has received more than 500 regional productions and 3,000 performances around the world, is returning to New York City after eleven years in an all-new staging directed by Mr. Brown. THE LAST FIVE YEARS will begin previews on Thursday, March 7 at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd street). Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 at 7pm.

GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS has announced the digital release of the Original London Cast Recording of the acclaimed musical 13 - The Musical on Tuesday, December 18. The show has music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, and was produced in London by Jeremy Walker for National Youth Music Theatre. The new recording, produced by Brown and recorded by Robin Sellars, includes two previously unrecorded songs, as well as revised lyrics and musical scoring, and the all-teenage cast that Mark Shenton of The Stage called 'rougher, tougher and more adorable' than the original Broadway company. "The Christmas Schooner" has been performed in the Chicago area every year, except for one, since 1995. And yet, I know for a fact that new theatergoers are discovering it all the time. Hence, it's a good thing that the Mercury Theater on Southport Avenue has mounted this story--based on a real slice of Chicago history--for the second year, and has already announced it for next year as well. Since bursting onto the New York musical theater scene in 1995 with his short-lived, but highly-praised Off-Broadway revue Songs For a New World, and then winning a 1999 Tony Award for Best Score for another short-lived show, Parade, pundits have been consistently predicting Jason Robert Brown's membership into the musical theater composer pantheon. While he has quite made it there yet, this week at his concerts at 54 Below (September 11-15), Brown offered a preview of songs from upcoming musicals that could finally allow him entree among the gods of Broadway musical composing.
Honoring the work and legacy of one of the great jazz composers and collaborators, the Music Institute of Chicago presents a Billy Strayhorn Festival October 26-28. The festival, presented in partnership with Billy Strayhorn Songs Inc., a family corporation of the Strayhorn heirs, includes two star-studded concerts featuring trumpet great Terell Stafford and a screening of the award-winning film Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life followed by a panel discussion. The festival takes place at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.

The company was founded by Raymond K. Cleveland and Toma Tavares Langston, two men who cut their theatrical teeth in Chicago companies like Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre, and who serve as co-producers and co-directors for "The Last Five Years." Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) has just announced that Jason Robert Brown's musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS has been added to the company's upcoming 2012-2013 season. The musical, which has not been seen in New York City since its brief off-Broadway run over ten years ago, will be directed by Mr. Brown.
Multi award-winning former EastEnders actor Charlie Clements leads the cast in the first major London revival of Meredith Oakes' FAITH since its Royal Court premiere in 1997, marking the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War. Directed by Drew Baker, the show will get a 4-week season at The Courtyard Theatre Tuesdays-Sundays at 7:30pm from tonight, 23 May to Saturday 16 June.
DOMA Theatre Company continues its 2012 musical season with a collection of stories by multiple award-winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown, opens tonight, May 11 at The MET Theatre in Los Angeles. Marco Gomez directs, Dolf Ramos is musical director and Angela Todaro choreographs. The cast is comprised of four singers: Andrea Arvanigian, Malek Hanna, Mookie Johnson and Joanne O'Brien.
Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown has just announced in his blog the release of two seperate sheet music book and accompaniment CD sets of his music. He writes: 'My editor at Hal Leonard, the estimable Rick Walters, called me in 2010 with the idea that we should do a book-and-CD folio of me playing accompaniments to my own songs, with a male and female edition. I thought it was a fantastic idea, and now it's finally out in the world!'
