Just last night, Columbia University, Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith and Tony Kushner honored the winners of the 2014 Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History with a program and reception at Columbia University. The winner of the 2014 Kennedy Prize is Dominique Morisseau for Detroit '67. Morisseau received a cash award of $100,000. The event honoring her work featured remarks by Carlos Alonso, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; Tony Kushner, Edward M. Violinist Philippe Quint Receives Gateways Ambassador of Arts Award

On Wednesday, March 12, violinist Philippe Quint was awarded the Ambassador of Arts Award at the 16th Anniversary Gala Banquet of the Gateways Organization celebrating The Brownstone Experience. The banquet, held in the Delegates Dining Room at the United Nations, was attended by distinguished elected officials, world business leaders, dignitaries and over 400 prominent guests, also honoring fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin and Virginie and Mark Cohen, CEOs of Stonehouse Capital Management. Unfortunately, Quint was not able to be present at the Award ceremony. On the way to the United Nations, Quint's taxi was hit by another vehicle running a red light and Quint had to be hospitalized. Fortunately there were no serious injuries and he is scheduled to appear next week with the Rhode Island Philharmonic.

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced two free special events in conjunction with its forthcoming production of The Magic Flute. WNO celebrates its sixth season of free opera simulcasts at Nationals Park with the M&M'S® Opera in the Outfield performance of Mozart's classic The Magic Flute on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Gates open at 5 p.m. for “pregame” activities for the entire family. The Magic Flute, which will be performed in English in a new eye-popping production featuring sets and costumes by Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko, will be broadcast live from the Kennedy Center Opera House to the high- definition screen at the ballpark at 7 p.m. WNO will also present a free exhibition of large-scale ceramic works by Mr. Kaneko in the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations, April 9 to May 19, 2014.

This year marks the 70thanniversary of the opening of this iconic musical comedy created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins. The Lyric Theatre will be reopened after a renovation being completed by its new owners, Ambassador Theatre Group. This historic theater at the crossroads of 42nd Street and Times Square was created from a combination of the original Apollo Theater, and the original Lyric Theatre that stood on the site, and the facade of which still stands on 42nd and 43rd Streets.
