Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to speak with Broadway legend, Rachel York, just minutes before her final rehearsal for THE KING AND I at Music Hall at Fair Park. Having personally seen Ms. York perform onstage in several Broadway shows, as well as the filmed productions of KISS ME KATE and VICTOR/VICTORIA, it was a joy to hear her behind-the-scenes stories and personal experiences.

Sonia Friedman Productions and National Theatre Live have announced an international broadcast of Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) in the title role in Lyndsey Turner's production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and presented by the Barbican, to cinemas internationally on Thursday, October 15, 2015.

The Daily Mail writes that the Barbican Theatre's summer 2015 production of HAMLET, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, will officially be broadcast via National Theatre Live on October 15 in the UK, Europe and the US, as well as later that same month in Japan (with subtitles), plus Brazil. Tickets go on sale March 16.

The first play of ACT's 50th Anniversary Season will be packed with talent. Broadway alums and Seattle favorites Laura Griffith and Brandon O'Neill will play Maggie the Cat and Brick, one of the most iconic couples in the theatrical canon. John Aylward, a Seattle treasure who went on to make a name for himself in Hollywood with recurring roles on ER, The West Wing, and Mad Men, will play the family patriarch Big Daddy. Rounding out the cast of leading roles will be elite Seattle acting veteran Marianne Owen as Big Mama. Kurt Beattie, in his final year as Artistic Director will direct this powerhouse cast.

Asolo Repertory Theatre kicks off its 2014-15 rep season with three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Thornton Wilder's uproarious romantic comedy, THE MATCHMAKER. Directed by Peter Amster, the play opens Friday, January 9, 2015 at 8pm, with previews Tuesday, January 6 at 7:30 pm, Wednesday, January 7 and Thursday, January 8 at 8pm. THE MATCHMAKER, which was adapted into the Tony Award-winning musical Hello, Dolly!, runs in rotating rep through Saturday, April 11, 2015.

According to the Daily Mail, director Lyndsey Turner and producer Sonia Friedman are in talks with National Theatre Live to film the Barbican Theatre's Summer 2015 production of HAMLET, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. The production would screen in theaters next year.

Lyndsey Turner's production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing the title role, doesn't begin performances until next summer at the Barbican Theatre, but according to the Telegraph, the show is already breaking records. Tickets for the play went on sale on August 11, and since then the show 'has become the most in-demand theatre production of all time.' Not only is Hamlet outselling the next most-popular production, the Young Vic's A Streetcar Named Desire, by four to one, but searches for tickets on Viagogo also surpass those for Beyonce and Jay Z's world tour.

Lyndsey Turner's production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing the title role, will begin performances at the Barbican Theatre on 5 August 2015, with opening night on 25 August at 7pm. The twelve week limited run will conclude on 31 October 2015. Set design is by Es Devlin. Further casting and details for this production will be announced at a later date. Hamlet will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.
