Quite appropriately, Jekyll and Hyde is one of the most polarizing musicals ever to hit New York. Despite running well over three and half years in its initial 1997 Broadway run, Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse's pop rock adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic horror tale of a young scientist who uses himself as the guinea pig in an experiment to separate the good and evil in man and then proceeds to murder those who called him mad is regularly mocked as a prime example of Broadway ineptitude. And yet the show maintains a loyal following of fans that are no doubt thrilled at its return.

This is the 42nd Anniversary of the original production, produced as a Nocturnal Dream Show and performed at midnight at the Palace Theatre in Chinatown in SF. With her unassuming modesty and intelligence, Meredith Dalglish is no ordinary artist from Portland Oregon. She was an original contributor to Judy Chicago's 1979 feminist installation work 'Dinner Party' now on permanent display at the Brooklyn Museum, New York. Dalglish, an exhibitor in Parallax 'Art' Fair at The Prince George Ballroom in New York 11-12 May, said of her contribution to Chicago's famous work: "I volunteered for 7 months to help Judy get this monumental installation finished. It was my job to take her image based on her fine drawing and translate it into clay to celebrate the life and work of Georgia O'Keeffe." Aware of the problems of art history and appreciating the issues that Parallax raises, she added, "Part of the intention of the 'Dinner Party' was to rewrite art history so that women are made visible and equally important to the male dominated art world. Judy did what you suggest: she created her own community. I have always been involved with early female imagery, such as that in my large scale permanent ceramic installation entitled 'Aphrodite's Dream' at the downtown Atlanta Hilton, Atlanta, GA. created in time for the Olympics held there in 1997. Triangles are a repeated theme in my work, that will also be represented at the upcoming Parallax Art Fair, as this is a healing, spiritual and feminine image.'

Since its creation in 1997, Ragtime has remained one of my favorite musicals for two reasons. Its simply gorgeous almost opera-like musical score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens moves me to the bone, and it has more meaningful historical content about America at the turn of the 20th century than just about any other show. Now via an excellent production by the Kentwood Players, Ragtime continues its deeply moving effect on audiences.

Beginning this Saturday, January 19th, Stephen Hanna will return to the role of Dream Hannibal in Off-Broadway's sellout sensation SILENCE! The Musical at the new Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square. Following the announcement that SILENCE! would be ending its long run December 30th, ticket sales unexpectedly soared, shattering all previous box office records for the show so far. As a result, the producers determined that performances of the smash hit show will resume on January 19th. SILENCE! opened at Theatre 80 on July 9, 2011 to unanimous rave reviews and spawned a highly successful L.A. production starring Davis Gaines and Christine Lakin.

The Negro Ensemble's "Cabaret Émigre," a stageplay by Sophia Romma, will make its debut on November 2 at 8 pm at the Lion Theater in NYC's theater district. A satirical story about emigrants who have traveled to the U.S. throughout the 1900s, the play spotlights a Russian Jew, African, Latino, German and various other emigres who made this difficult travel in pursuit of the American Dream. The show makes the audience question: Did they achieve this dream? Was it worth it? And, just in time for New Yorkers to decide which president will help them to achieve their goals in the upcoming years. The show runs through Sunday, November 18.
Lee Miller lived a life most only dream of, globetrotting through New York, Paris, Egypt, London and the front lines of World War II. Forever a free spirit who followed her own ambitions and insatiable curiosity, Miller left behind a top modeling career at Vogue, and became the muse to some of the 20th century's most significant artists: befriended by Picasso, idolized by Cocteau, and the single most important lover and inspiration to Man Ray. Her body-or parts of it-would become iconic of surrealism, but the story behind her enigmatic gaze and her photography is largely unknown.
