Lincoln Center Festival and Park Avenue Armory, in association with The Ohio State University will bring the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to New York in July and August 2011 for an unprecedented six-week residency. Stage and screen star Helen Mirren has joined the cast of the upcoming thriller 'Red', Variety reports. Already announced for the cast are Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis. Produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Gregory Noveck, and Mark Vahradian, 'Red' is written by Erich and Joe Hoeber and directed by Robert Schwentke. Shooting is set to begin January 2010 with an expected release date of November 19th, 2010.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced complete casting today for the world premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS PART 1 & PART 2. McCraney, one of America's most acclaimed young writers, returns to The Public to complete his trilogy following the success of The Brothers Size in 2007. Tina Landau will direct In The Red and Brown Water and Robert O'Hara will direct The Brothers Size and Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet.
Today Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the creative team for its world premiere of American Idiot. Based on the Grammy Award-winning album of the same name, the show features the music of Green Day and the lyrics of its frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. American Idiot is being staged by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, who also collaborated with Armstrong on the story. It features the work of Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett and music supervisor Tom Kitt, the Tony-winning composer who provided string arrangements for the band's latest album, 21st Century Breakdown.

Planet Connections Theater Festivity will premiere in June 2009 as a new festival designed to promote awareness in the theatrical community about social and cultural issues. Formed by two Spotlight On Festival alums, Glory Bowen and Frank Calo, the festival will explore using theater as a tool for social change while connecting artists with new audiences in fun theatrical environment. The goals of the festival are to inspire people to get involved and fight for world causes.

Previews will begin Thursday, March 4, 2010 following a pre-Broadway engagement at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre in Chicago that begins November 13.
