VOW is an inaugural and extremely ambitious musical theatre workshop being presented by the Marymount Manhattan College Musical Theatre Program (Pat Hoag Simon, Coordinator for Musical Theatre) and The Directory Of Contemporary Musical Theatre Writers (David Sisco, Founder & Curator) that opens wide the creative process of the Broadway musical theatre industry to twenty very fortunate musical theatre students currently enrolled in Marymount Manhattan College's progressive Musical Theatre Program.

Beauty and the Beast may have first appeared on Broadway almost 20 years ago, in 1994, but the show is alive and well. Newly re-imagined, the current US national touring company will be making its way to Durham for an engagement from October 8 - 13. In preparation for the show's arrival in the triangle, I had the honor of speaking with Matt West, the show's Tony-nominated choreographer, about the show's beginnings, its new life, and the message at its heart.

Dallas Theater Center launches its 2013-14 season with A Raisin in the Sun. Tre Garrett of Fort Worth's Jubilee Theatre will make his directorial debut at DTC with this Tony Award-winning play. A Raisin in the Sun begins with a Pay-What-You-Can performance tonight, September 13 and runs through Sunday, October 27 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
From South Africa comes a stage adaptation of 'Sacred Elephant,' the epic poem by Heathcote Williams, performed by Jeremy Crutchley, a multi award-winning actor of stage and screen, and directed by Geoffrey Hyland. 'Sacred Elephant' is the first of four world-famous, influential poems Williams has written on environmental causes. It was followed by 'Whale Nation' (1988), 'Falling for a Dolphin' (1990) and 'Autogeddon' (1991). Sheer Nerve Productions, in association with BuyArt and Cockpit, will present the American premiere of the work tonight, September 4 to 22 as part of the Summer Shares at La MaMa, 74A East Fourth Street.

Northrop at the University of Minnesota announces single tickets go on-sale today, August 5 for its 2013-14 Northrop Season, which features world-class dance, including copresentations with The O'Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University's Women of Substance and Walker Art Center. Today we are talking to an exceptionally accomplished actress known for her many leading and featured roles in a number of illustrious musical theatre properties - among them, part of the original Broadway casts of FALSETTOS, CITY OF ANGELS, PARADE, LESTAT, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, SCANDALOUS and many more - the gifted and genuine Carolee Carmello. Discussing many aspects of originating roles in those aforementioned shows as well as her replacement gigs in everything from KISS ME, KATE to SISTER ACT and MAMMA MIA!, Carmello sheds some light on her process in bringing such a striking series of characters to life onstage eight times a week, including creating roles Off-Broadway in ELEGIES, HELLO AGAIN and JOHN & JEN. Additionally, Carmello shares stories from the set of NBC's musical drama series SMASH as well as comments on other potential roles she would like to pursue someday.
