The Old Globe and the San Diego Public Library were selected last year to co-host the only stop in California for FIRST FOLIO! THE BOOK THAT GAVE US SHAKESPEARE, on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library, a national traveling exhibition organized by the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.

On Friday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m., The Hartt School Community Division (HCD) presents the world premiere of the ballet THE RED SHOES, featuring a newly created score with live piano, recorded music, and new compositions by Jessica Rudman, with original story and choreography by Susannah Marchese.

According to reports, Oscar-nominated actor, Ian McKellen, has backed out of a book deal with UK publisher Hodder & Stoughton, which was worth approximately $1.4 million.

In 1916, Woodrow Wilson was President and Europe was in the thick of World War I.  The State of Montana elected the first woman representative in Congress and the U.S. National Park Service was created by an act of Congress.  Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mae Marsh were some of the entertainment stars of the day, appearing on marquees across the country.  In the midst of the silent film era, the Regent Theatre first opened its doors on April 24, 1916. A state of the art theater at the time, it was said "There is no city or town that can boast of a more beautiful motion picture theatre." 

We Players (Artistic Director, Ava Roy; Managing Director, Lauren D. Chavez), will present Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet at the historic Rancho Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park in Sonoma County throughout August/September 2016. A milestone season, it's both We Players' Sweet Sixteen and Shakespeare 400 when companies around the world commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death in 1616. We Players honors both occasions with a return to Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, it's own very first production in 2000. We Players will celebrate with a season of Romeo & Juliet inspired events. Prior to the full-scale production of the play at this California State Park, We Players will present the elaborate prelude and elegant masquerade ball - The Capulet Ball - at several unique and stunning venues throughout the greater Bay Area. The Capulet Ball is conceived as a performance integrated party where guests are invited to the Capulet's home for a masquerade ball complete with delicious drinks, edibles, live music, and dancing. Guests are invited to bring their own masks, or be decked out by We Players, and join the Capulet family (along with the masquerade crashing Mercutio, Benvolio and Romeo) on the dance floor. Attire is festive and fabulous!

Brooklyn's American Opera Projects (AOP) and the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) will present scenes from a new opera The Leopard by composerMichael Dellaira (The Secret Agent) and librettist J. D. McClatchy (Emmeline), an adaptation of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa's internationally acclaimed 1958 novel.

For the first time since its founding, this season's focus is on the music and culture of Italy, with seven weeks of music, opera,theater, dance, film, and cabaret keyed to the theme of the 27th Bard Music Festival, "Puccini and His World." This intensive examination of the life and times of Giacomo Puccini opens a window onto Italy's rich musical heritage from Palestrina to Menotti, by way of the most popular and successful - yet, paradoxically, frequently critically underrated - opera composer of all time. Justin Vivian Bond. Taking place between July 1 and August 14 in the Frank Gehry-designed Richard B. Rifco Artistic Director Pravesh Kumar today announces the full cast for the world premiere of Laila: The Musical. Kumar directs Reece Bahia, Ravin J Ganatra, Mona Goodwin, Kush Khanna, Sami Lamine, Sheena Patel, Vedi Roy, Shin and Yinka Williams in the production which opens at Watford Palace Theatre on 7 April. Laila then tours to The New Wolsey Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Warwick Arts Centre, Queen's Theatre Hornchurch, Theatre Royal Windsor and The Lowry.

 The Dallas Opera resumes the 2015-2016 Season in early spring with Jules Massenet's heart-wrenching and seductive tale of love, lust, and spectacularly bad choices: MANON, opening March 4, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House for the first of four performances.

The producers of the multi award-winning smash hit Billy Elliot the Musical are delighted to announce that the four boys who will play the title role in the first ever UK and Ireland tour of the iconic musical are Adam Abbou (12 years old from Liverpool), Matthew Lyons (11 years old from Leeds), Haydn May (11 years old from Bath) and Lewis Smallman (12 years old from West Bromwich). The boys were cast following nationwide auditions and after months of intensive rehearsals will alternate in the role when the show opens at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on Wednesday 24 February 2016.

Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel today announced the creative teams for New York City Center's 2016 Encores! season. J. Bernard Calloway, Chuck Cooper, Marva Hicks, Carly Hughes, LaChanze, Norm Lewis, Forrest McClendon, and J.D. Webster will star in Vernon Duke and John Latouche's jazz?filled fable Cabin in the Sky, running for seven performances at City Center from February 10-14. The 1940 musical will be directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago?Hudson with choreography by Camille A. Brown.

Can YOU feel a brand new day? We're gearing up to ease on down the road with powerhouse newcomer Shanice Williams and the rest of the gang from Oz, when THE WIZ LIVE! premieres Thursday, December 3, at 8pm on NBC.  Of course, as was the case in 2013's THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE! and last year's PETER PAN LIVE!, the cast is certainly not short on big-name talent — and most come with Broadway or theatrical credits, no less.
