The British are coming! FST celebrates 20 years of Cabaret with the opening of its second Winter Cabaret show of the season, Yesterday. Now 86, Previn has received four Academy Awards for his work in film, 10 Grammy Awards for his recordings (plus one more for his Lifetime Achievement), and he is also an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He's held a series of major conducting posts, including the L.A. Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra, but now exclusively composes. The concert is led by Music Director Carl St.Clair, whose great admiration for the legend shaped this year's ACF to reveal the scope of Previn's prowess as a composer.

Theatre production company Beth Marshall Presents' latest play at the Garden Theatre is an exceptionally challenging one; for artists and audiences alike. One would be safe to assume that with a title like DOUBT: A PARABLE the play will focus on the varying ways in which one can experience the emotion; and while that is true, on closer examination, the far more important aspect of the play's title comes after the colon; 'A PARABLE.' Beth Marshall's production of this 2004 Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning play is anchored by a four-person cast which gives uniformly stirring performances, but one in particular might ultimately undermine the larger lesson which playwright John Patrick Stanley was looking to teach.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that songwriters and producers Holland-Dozier-Hollandwill be honored with the 2,543rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame tomorrow, Friday, February 13, at 11:30 a.m. The star in the category of Recording will be dedicated near the Live Nation Building at 7070 Hollywood Boulevard. Holland-Dozier-Holland have reunited for the first time in more than 30 years to write the score for the new Broadway-bound musical First Wives Club, which will make its World Premiere in Chicago on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 and play through March 29, 2015 at the Oriental Theatre (24 West Randolph St.).

After a year of performances in the newly renovated Ruth Finley Person Theater, Wells Fargo Center for the Arts kicks-off the fall season with a rich array of performers, speakers and family programming. The line-up features music legends like Steve Winwood, Heart, The Temptations and The Four Tops as well as unforgettable comedians Cheech and Chong and Nick Offerman.

The current Stephen Sondheim tribute show, Our Time, starring KT Sullivan and Jeff Harnar at the Laurie Beechman (which I attended on July 9 and 16; there are two more Wednesday performances at 6pm on August 6, 13), is a charming, classy, and entertaining affair. But it also includes enough flaws in execution that prevent it from being truly great. For one thing, it doesn't really feel like a duo show. It's more like two solo performances within one show, where the performers fit in a couple of numbers together to justify the concept. A critique of the Sullivan/Harnar Sondheim set provides an interesting opportunity to analyze the anatomy of a duo show and the choices that can make it work—or not.
