Seattle Shakespeare Company To Produce The Threepenny Opera at Intiman Theatre

By:

Seattle Shakespeare Company announced today its plans to produce The Threepenny Opera at the Intiman Theatre. The Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill musical satire about the dapper criminal, Mac the Knife, and the denizens of his seedy underworld will run February 16 through March 6, 2011 for 15 performances only.

"For our 20th anniversary, we wanted to stretch our wings in a new way," said artistic director Stephanie Shine who will direct the production of The Threepenny Opera. "It's a unique confluence of timing and space availability. We're very excited to perform at Intiman on this project. Producing Threepenny is a challenge in and of itself, but the opportunity to produce it in a larger venue for us will be an exhilarating thrill ride."

Seattle Shakespeare Company launches its 20th anniversary season with Hamlet at the end of October which will run in repertory with the new comedy Wittenberg about young Hamlet's college days. A chamber version of the fairytale adventure Cymbeline starts the new year, followed by The Threepenny Opera. The season wraps up in the spring with Shakespeare's frothy comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Single tickets go on sale September 28 online at www.seattleshakespeare.org or at the Seattle Shakespeare Company Box Office at (206) 733-8222. Prices start at $15. Season tickets are on sale now and start at $82 for the five play season.
