Macha Monkey Announces Their Tenth Season

Macha Monkey is rolling out our 10th season of fearless, funny, female theatre this fall! Our 2010-2011 season of new work, which features strong female characters will run September 2010 - June 2011.

Hearts Are Monsters

Hearts Are Monsters is a comedy with deadly consequences. Hearts Are Monsters features 16-year-old Marcy, a genius with a misshapen head and a love of mole rats, her pretty twin sister Wendy (a former child star who now debauches), their drunk and lonely mother, and Daddy's ghost. He seeks justice.

The Chorus
Readings of a new work in progress by Artistic Director Kristina Sutherland
One weekend only February 24th - February 26th
The Chorus is a brand new comedy in progress by Artistic Director Kristina Sutherland. The Chorus features a much-beleaguered Ismene. Ismene has a chorus following her, an actual Greek chorus. Tragedy and doom and gloom are her constant companions. Ismene has a plan. She thinks getting rid of these citizens of Thebes will solve everything. Little does she know how dangerous this solution will be.

Elektra

In honor of Macha Monkey's tenth season of new works and our upcoming tenth anniversary, Macha Monkey is proud to remount Artistic Co-Founders Desiree Prewitt and Kristina Sutherland's first play,Elektra (formerly known as Live Girls Do Elektra). Prewitt and Sutherland's adaptation of Elektra is a smart, funny, and sometimes creepy fusion of Greek tragedy and white suburban squalor. Set in suburbia in 1999, mother Clytemnestra is an often drunk socialite and Elektra is her obsessive compulsive, revenge thirsty daughter. The house of Atreus is the talk of the neighborhood. Will Orestes come home to revenge his father or will Elektra have to take matters into her own hands?

Auditions for Hearts are Monsters

Macha Monkey Productions seeks actors for the world premiere production of
Hearts Are Monsters by Kelleen Conway Blanchard (playwright of Small Town), to be directed by Bret Fetzer (director of Small Town and the late night serial Penguins at Annex Theatre).

'Hearts Are Monsters' is a little bit like 'Hamlet' and 'Catcher in the Rye' thrown into a blender and filtered through the consciousness of a precocious but maladroit suburban teenage girl who raises naked mole rats in her bedroom. The dialogue is simultaneously ornate and trashy.

Auditions will be on Saturday, August 14, between noon and 4 pm. Auditioners will be asked to memorize a short monologue from the play to present.
