Black History, Black Future at Annex Theatre with WANING

By: Jan. 25, 2017

Celebrate black excellence with Annex Theatre's new intimate off-night play - Waning - by emerging playwright Kamaria Hallums-Harris and directed bySadiqua Iman, in co-production with Earth Pearl Collective.

At 17, Luna is coming to terms with the harsh reality of what it means to be a young, black, queer woman in America. It's hard to find the words to claim her identity and her right to love and be loved, but Luna can't let the expectations of the past keep her from moving into her future.

Dance, discovery, and dark truths show that the words on the pages of history books are nothing compared to weight of reality. This world-premiere play is a moving and timely story of self-discovery and self-love.

Kamaria Hallums-Harris is a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts and a 2013 acting intern with Intiman Theatre Festival. She has previously appeared at Annex Theatre as Ariel in Eat Cake. This is her first fully-produced play as a playwright.

Sadiqua Iman is an inter-disciplinary director, performer, producer, and educator. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Earth Pearl Collective, and a 2016 Intiman Emerging Artist.

Waning performs February 14 through March 1, Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Industry night isMonday, February 27 at 7:30pm. $10 general/$5 TPS, senior, military, student at Annex Theatre at the corner of 11th & Pike in Capitol Hill.
