ArtsWest Presents Jim Cartwright’s THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE, 3/7-31

By:

Opening Wednesday, March 7, 2012, and playing through March 31, ArtsWest presents THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE.  Winner of the Laurence Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for "Best New Comedy," when it first appeared in London in 1992, THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE is written by British playwright, Jim Cartwright.

In a working class town in Northern England, Mari Hoff is desperate for the elixir that will make her feel alive.  And she's not the only one.  Her teenage daughter, LV, is a shut-in who lives by the light of the records left by her father.  Turns out she's a prodigy who can perfectly imitate the great vocalists she loves.  Enter a seedy talent agent with big plans for Little Voice's future, and a quiet young phone man with his own electric dreams.

At the center of the play is the incredible voice of Little Voice, a young woman who navigates the powerhouse stylings of Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Edith Piaf, Julie Andrews, and more.

THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE, is directed by ArtsWest Artistic Director, Christopher Zinovitch; costumes by Stacey Derek (Amy's View); set and props designed by Jill Beasley; lighting by Josh Randall; sound design by Johanna Melamed (All Through the Night); musical director, Kim Dare (Evil Dead: The Musical).  Myrna Conn, an 18 year-old who came up through the theater's Musical Education program, plays Little Voice, Peggy Gannon plays Mari Hoff; Patricia Haines-Ainsworth, Jesse Smith, Daniel Reaume, and Travis Tingvall round out the cast. Additionally, Suzy Conn, (mother of Little Voice, Myrna Conn and a professional composer and lyricist), has composed an original song, "My Song" for Little Voice's finale.

THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE, opens March 7th and runs till March 31st;  Wednesday – Saturday at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3:00pm.  Tickets available on-line at www.artswest.org, or through the ArtsWest Box Office: 206-938-0339, (Box Office Hours: Tuesday-Saturday Noon-7pm).  Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
