Anastacia-Renee is Seattle's Civic Poet. She is bringing her transformative literary performance 9 Ounces, a One Woman Show to the Annex stage in a way you've never seen it performed before.

9 Ounces: A One Woman Show is a multivalent play unapologetically "downward-dogging" its way through class, race, culture, oppression, depression, survival and epiphany. Using the audience as mirror and internal reflection, the characters Luna, Alice and Saraphina (all played by Anastacia-Renee) weave a collective tale of individual grotesque beauty.

Performed in 2 hours with an intermission, Anastacia-Renee channels three incredible characters in this intergenerational original work. There is Luna, a young half-spirit girl; Alice, a heartbroken yogi trying to break free; and Seraphina, an octogenarian full of wisdom. No matter your demographic, once you meet these characters you will be transformed. Their vulnerability will penetrate your consciousness and ask: What do you value enough to defend and protect?

If you've seen a previous iteration of this production, you have never seen it like this before. Anastacia-Renee's work will transform the Annex space, and Annex will give this play its performative due.

Anastacia-Renee is Civic Poet of Seattle and former 2015-2017 Poet-in-Residence at Hugo House. She is a hybrid genre writer, workshop facilitator and multivalent performance artist. She is the author of four books: Forget It (Black Radish Books), (v.), (Gramma Press), Answer(Me) (Argus Press), and 26 (Dancing Girl Press) and her poetry, prose and fiction have been published widely.

Annex Theatre is a democratic collective of theatre artists dedicated to creating bold new work in an environment of improbability, resourcefulness, and risk. We produce new plays by living playwrights, radical reinterpretations of classic scripts, and ensemble-generated non-linear spectacles. We've produced hundreds of world and regional premieres, including TPS's Gregory Awards Outstanding New Play recipients and nominees since 2011.
