SUNSET SONG to Play King's Theatre Glasgow, 21-25 October
Recently voted Scotland's most popular novel of all time, Sunset Song, presented by Sell a Door Theatre Company, embarks on a stage tour throughout the country on a poignant year commemorating 100 years since the start of the First World War. This revival of Alastair Cording's faithful adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon's classic story takes to the King's Theatre stage from Tuesday 21 until Saturday 25 October 2014.
Set in a farming community in the North East of Scotland, Sunset Song charts Chris's struggle to adapt to her new world and hold together her fragile family. Her survival depends solely on her belief that beyond the sunset lies hope.
Rebecca Elise stars as Chris Guthrie who is bound to a harsh farming life by her intense love of the land. Chris dreams of the seductive yet distant world of books and learning, but when war breaks out, she suddenly finds herself facing a very different reality as a widowed, single mother in a land altered beyond recognition.
Starring alongside Rebecca Elise is Alan McHugh (John Guthrie), Clare Waugh (Jean Guthrie), Craig Anthony-Ralston (Ewan Tavendale), David McKay (Chae Strachan), Fraser Sivewright (Will Guthrie), Jennifer Hainey (Margret Strachan) and Sandy Nelson (Rob Duncan).
Produced by Sell A Door Theatre Company in Association with The Beacon, Sunset Song is directed by Julie Ellen, Designed by Jan Bee Brown with Lighting Designed by Alexander Ridgers.
