Just Might Break A World Record Tonight comes to Edinburgh in August
BWW catches up with Myles and Dan to chat about Just Might Break A World Record Tonight.
Tell us a bit about Myles and Dan Just Might Break A World Record Tonight.
Just Might Break A World Record Tonight is an absurd take on record-breaking attempts where we will be trying to perform 50 comedy sketches in 50 minutes. It seems impossible, especially for two men in their mid-30s who spend an incredible amount of time on stage not doing sketches. We are pretty sure it's a world record, but Guinness haven't been replying to our emails.
How long have you been performing together?
We've been performing and writing together for nearly a decade, after meeting in a betting shop shortly after we both moved to London, Myles from Sydney, Australia, and Dan from the Midlands in 2013. Despite neither of us having the enthusiasm or vigor to continue to work in the bookmakers for long, we quickly realised that we had the same sense of humour and started working together shortly afterwards.
With this being your Edinburgh debut, do you think you know what to expect from the festival?
We've been several times together as best friends and we're very excited to test the limits of our friendship and our bonds over the course of four weeks. We almost got bunk beds as accommodation, but sadly we ended up in separate rooms, so we will have more privacy than expected.
Who would you like to come and see it?
Anyone who likes comedy and extremely mild jeopardy. Recently we've been compared to Reeves and Mortimer, Aunty Donna and the Tim Robinson show 'I Think You Should Leave'. It's a frenetic show that has a unique sketch structure that we think is an original take on the double-act format, blending awkwardness, silliness and excellent punchlines.
What would you like audiences to take away from it?
We've put a lot of time and love into our show, so we hope that the audience takes away the fun of trying (and failing), the joy of friendship and the excitement of a race to the finish. But mostly we hope people have a good time.
