EDINBURGH 2019: Review: VIKKI STONE: SONG BIRD, Pleasance

EDINBURGH 2019: Review: VIKKI STONE: SONG BIRD, Pleasance

Early on in the performance, Vikki Stone lets us know that we'll be 'keeping things light' this evening. While she acknowledges that there are a lot of awful things going on in the world just now- she's chosen to ignore them while writing this show.

Song Bird is an hour of pure, joyful escapism. It's the first comedy show I've been to in a long time that has actually made me ache from laughing.

One of the things I love about Stone's style of musical comedy is that even if I've heard the songs before- I still find them as funny on repeat listen. They're also technically brilliant and completely infectious. Topics covered in the show include having a ludicrous number of tambourines in the house, an early love of novelty songs and her dog's penis.

While I do think there's a place for comedy that is making a statement, there's something absolutely delightful and refreshing about a comedy show that just wants to make you laugh for an hour. I can't recommend it highly enough.
