EDINBURGH 2019: Review: Anna Drezen: OKAY, GET HOME SAFE!! Pleasance Courtyard

Okay, Get Home Safe!! is Anna Drezen's Edinburgh Fringe debut which is mostly about the current obsession with true crime. Particularly, why it seems so popular with women.

It's a fun hour which acknowledges having "the sad bit" in comedy shows. Drezen wants to avoid that and like the murder podcasts she so loves, cuts to commercial break every time she feels like she's going to share a traumatic event. Drezen's delivery is deadpan which suits the dark content and the commercials are very funny and witty.

While it is definitely a comedy show, Okay, Get Home Safe!! has excellent insight into the mixed messages that women get from society. The contrast between being told that you should be friendly to strangers and open your heart but also be careful not to get murdered.

I was invited to review this show while it was still in previews but Anna Drezen has clearly already found her stride for the festival. Okay, Get Home Safe!! is smart, relevant and hilarious throughout.
