EDINBURGH 2018: Review: LAUREN PATTISON: PEACHY, Pleasance Image

Lauren Pattison opens by saying that last year someone described her as "the Taylor Swift of comedy" after writing her debut show about a breakup. This isn't a label that Pattison is overly thrilled with and this year she wanted to write a happy show- despite happy comedy being very difficult to write.

A lot has happened for her since debuting her solo hour at the festival last year. Most notably, a five-month trip to Australia to play some of the comedy festivals out there. Anybody who saw Lady Muck will be aware that Pattison suffers from anxiety and depression and that making this journey solo was a huge achievement by anyone's standards.

She's also fallen in love. There are some excellent anecdotes about trying to date posh boys in London with her big working-class chip on her shoulder. While this is a polished and slick hour of comedy, Lauren Pattison very much gives you the feeling that you're just sitting down for a chat with a pal.

Peachy is more a kind of storytelling type of comedy show but rest assured it is punctuated with big laughs. Pattison has excellent comedic timing and the best punchlines are the ones you don't see coming.

Yes, Peachy is a happy comedy show. But Lauren is such a warm and engaging performer that you'll be bloody delighted for her.
