EDINBURGH 2017: BWW Q&A- ME & ROBIN HOOD Image

Tell us a bit about ME & ROBIN HOOD.

It's all about wondering what we might want to do about inequality. It's a response to the growing gap between the haves and have nots. It's about looking at the story of money and the story of Robin Hood. It's about now, today's world. It's a fun and thought-provoking hour that might make you feel a bit better...

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

I love the Edinburgh Festival. This is our 20th Anniversary on the Fringe. For me, it's really important to put a show into the wonderful mix that is the Edinburgh Festival. Audiences at the festival are a really great mix of open and adventurous people and hard-core theatre going folk that have serious critical opinions. And I love the opportunity to see work and meet other theatre-makers. I often learn more in August in Edinburgh than I do the rest of the year.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

A ticket to the show costs £5 because the show's mission is to raise money for Street Child United. I'm telling a story that encourages us to wonder what we might do for people who have a lot less than us. The way the show opens up the story of money and makes giving money integral to it sets it apart. The show exists because of a desire to get children off the streets.

Who would you recommend comes to see your show?

The show has a pretty broad appeal because it's very accessible storytelling. Apart from 'the general public' however, I'd like to see Donald Trump, Owen Jones, Pele, Ronaldo, my grandmother, Margaret Thatcher and Daniel Kitson in the aisles. Gandhi would be more than welcome also.

Are there any other performances you're hoping to catch at the festival?

Definitely. Me & My Bee is top of my list. I've seen other shows by This Egg and think they're a company to look out for. The new Ontroerend Goed show. Everything in the Aurora Nova brochure. Tim Key. Tommy Tiernan. Carol Ann Duffy. Harry Baker. The list is endless...
