A Post Gender Society Imagined In Scottish Dance Theatre's New Double Bill For Spring 2018

Scottish Dance Theatre will debut their new work RITUALIA at Dundee Rep on Friday 9th February. Created by Berlin based Scottish choreographer Colette Sadler, RITUALIA takes Bronislava Nijinska's feminist cultural landmark that is Les Noces and transforms it by creating a fictional post-gender future. Evoking and celebrating the notion of hybridity, exploring iconic artificiality, presentation and fashion, RITUALIA is set to be a thought-provoking visual feast.

Presented in four scenes RITUALIA will see Scotland's leading contemporary dance company team up with one of Europe's most celebrated choreographers. Originally from Glasgow Sadler's work has received international acclaim where her unique dance aesthetic challenges notions of contemporary performance, explores the role of the body and merges dance and visual art mediums. Taking inspiration from fashion in late 20th century pop culture RITUALIA brings audiences on a ritualistic journey as object and body are elevated to an iconic status.

RITUALIA will be joined by Botis Seva's TuTuMucky which returns to Scotland following rave reviews at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. TuTuMucky blurs the boundaries between dance forms. The traditional conventions of ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop technique and challenged offering offer a distinctively innovative form of dance. It explores social order, structured lifestyles and hierarchies, peace within chaos and how important it is as human beings to find peace for ourselves. The result is a fresh, rhythmic, and explosive journey to places both familiar and strange set to an original musical backdrop by beat producer Torben Lars Sylvest.
