Theatre Odyssey Announces New Initiative ON THE ROAD

Theatre Odyssey is excited to announce our initiative, On the Road.

We will bring live theatre to those who can't go to it. Many senior citizens who love theater lack the mobility to attend local productions. So Theatre Odyssey is taking live theater "On the Road," bringing short plays to retirement communities and assisted living facilities in the Tampa Bay area.

Theatre Odyssey, a not-for-profit theater company based in Sarasota, is the only local theater that mounts full productions of original short plays by local playwrights.

Since its founding in 2006, Theatre Odyssey has produced almost 100 original plays. Each May the company produces a Ten-Minute Play Festival featuring the best eight plays from scores submitted by authors from the Tampa Bay area. In January, a Student Playwriting Festival features the work of area high school students and the two top winners receive modest scholarship awards.

Unlike those well-established festivals of original ten-minute plays, Theatre Odyssey's On the Road will take advantage of our experience in staging short plays to offer an evening of one-acts with a total running time of 60 minutes or more.

Each presentation will consist of full productions of at least three short plays with a total running time of an hour or more. These are not staged readings but well-rehearsed productions by talented actors working with an experienced director, with costumes, set pieces and props.

We are currently accepting scripts of one-acts, running 15-30 minutes.

Whether comedy or drama, fantasy or mystery, your play must be appealing to a mature audience of experienced, educated, well-traveled theatre-goers.

Performances are presently being scheduled for a week in late March. Other weeks will be scheduled in June, September and December; dates selected will be determined by the availability of performance space at the various venues.
