The quintessential ballet, Swan Lake is undoubtedly the most popular of all classical ballets. Presented in four acts, Swan Lake is the tragic tale of Odette, the beautiful Swan Queen who is imprisoned under the spell of the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart.

The ballet is the ultimate power struggle between good and evil, paired with the promise of everlasting love.

Choreographed by Thor Sutowski, the full-length Swan Lake was added to the California Ballet Company repertoire with its 1997 debut to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.

International Guest Artists Maia Makhateli and Artur Shesterikov, both principal dancers with the Dutch Royal Ballet, join the California Ballet Company as they perform this classic ballet live on stage at San Diego’s Civic Theatre.

PRE-PERFORMANCE LECTURE: Sunday – May 19th at 1:30p

Come learn the history of Swan Lake before you see it! Director Maxine Mahon and Choreographer Thor Sutowski will guide you through the creation of the original production and the development of California Ballet’s full-length version. Lecture begins at 1:30p and lasts approx. 25 minutes. Patrons will return to the lobby after lecture and then be seated in regular ticket locations. Open to all Sunday, May 19th ticket holders.
Ages: Appropriate for Children 6 years of age and older.
