BWW Review: World Premiere Musical ROADS COURAGEOUS Has a Few Potholes
by Jeff Davis - March 10, 2013
There's a strange thing about roads. They must be carefully paved and must lead somewhere before they're driven upon. Such is the problem with ROADS COURAGEOUS, the highly problematic new musical enjoying its World Premiere at The Playhouse San Antonio.
BWW Reviews: Woodlawn Bares Their Funny Bone with FULL MONTY
by Jeff Davis - March 07, 2013
While it certainly doesn't have the lofty goals of some shows, The Full Monty easily accomplishes its goal to entertain. It's a silly, raunchy, foul-mouthed good time at the theater. High brow it's not, but high entertainment it is, and Woodlawn Theatre's current production of The Full Monty will have you hooting, hollering, and digging for singles.
Classic Theatre Presents SCAPIN,5/10-5/25
by Samantha Vega - March 06, 2013
Vaudeville and Commedia Dell' Arte are seamlessly woven into an uproarious fable of scheming lovers, mistaken identities, and clownish greedy servants. Balancing on a delicately taut tightrope of mischief and revenge, the crafty servant Scapin promises to help two pairs of wide-eyed lovers while juggling an array of elaborate disguises to keep their wealthy fathers from discovering the truth. Remaining true to Moliere's classic farcical tale from the seventeenth century, this fresh and side-splitting adaptation adds a late twentieth century spin to the language and hilarious non-stop action. This production features some of San Antonio's most talented actors including recent Juliard School of Drama graduate Brendan Spieth in the titular role.

BWW Reviews: Silence is Golden at Overtime's THE CABINET OF DR CALIGARI
by Jeff Davis - February 10, 2013
It's remarkable that The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a stage piece that owes so much to a 90 year old film, feels so fresh and original, but it is without a doubt one of the most memorable and astonishing works of theater I've seen in years. Not many artists have the courage or even the know-how to stage something this bold, but I'm glad Overtime Theatre has moxie to spare. If you are a fan of theater, film, or both, you need to see this glorious production.
