BWW Blog: Greg Hinojosa, Artistic Director of Woodlawn Theatre - There's Much to Love in the Woods
by Guest Blogger: Greg Hinojosa - February 11, 2014
Into the Woods has always been one of my favorite Sondheim musicals. I love the complicated score, the mysterious, interesting character plots and of course the childhood fairy tales that we grew up hearing when we were children. I love that the 'Woods,' to me, symbolizes 'the world.' These characters are traditional in the sense that they are characters we know and love within the fairy tales, but they get tossed into a more real world after they discover that not everything they expected from their 'ever after' dream is really a good thing.

BWW Reviews: VENUS IN FUR a Sexy, Hilarious Comedy
by Jeff Davis - February 05, 2014
Sometimes a new, much talked about Broadway play is well deserving of the hype. Case in point: Venus in Fur. The play, by the brilliant David Ives, was the talk of New York back in 2011, largely in part to the Tony Award winning performance from Nina Arianda. Since becoming available to regional theaters, companies all over the nation have been scrambling to get the rights to produce this naughty little crowd-pleaser.

BWW Reviews: GHOST THE MUSICAL Will Keep You Guessing
by Kathy Strain - January 23, 2014
If you were going to see GHOST THE MUSICAL and looking for references to the original movie with Patrick Swayze (Sam) and Demi Moore (Molly), you would have seen a lot of them. Yes, the popular song, 'Unchained Melody' was included. Yes, Molly does sculpting and Sam works on Wall Street. The live production actually follows the movie closely since Bruce Rubin wrote both the screenplay and play script. But, if you were going solely to relive your memories of the original, then you would have been disappointed. GHOST THE MUSICAL is a wonderful production by itself and is worthy of its own iconic references.

Woe to anyone who shoots their eye out, for not being able to see A Christmas Story: The Musical at the Woodlawn would be a tragedy. Though their 2012 non-musical production of the classic Holiday film was joyous, this version is superior.

BWW Reviews: The Playhouse's GUYS AND DOLLS a Fantastic Production of a Musical Theatre Classic
by Jeff Davis - December 18, 2013
When it comes to the Golden Age of Broadway, there are few shows that are as accessible and wildly entertaining as Guys and Dolls. Since it's debut in 1950, the musical has graced Broadway six times, and there are now reports of a film remake. If the film is half as entertaining as the current production at The Playhouse, audiences will be pleased. The Playhouse's Guys in Dolls is vibrant, joyous, and entertaining from beginning to end.
