SCERA President & CEO Adam J. Robertson swears by the opening event of the 2013 summer season at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre. And the word "swear" is the appropriate description, as Grammy Award-winning R&B harmony group All-4-One will perform their megahit "I Swear" on Memorial Day, May 27.
General admission tickets for the 8 p.m. show are available at $20 for adults and $15 for children (age 3-11), seniors (65 and older), and students (w/ID). Reserved area tickets range from $25 to $35 for adults and $20 to $30 for children, seniors and students. Tickets are available at www.scera.org, by calling (801) 225-ARTs, or in person at the main office at SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem, open 10am-6pm weekdays and Saturdays from 12Noon-6pm.
When All-4-One hit the music scene in the mid '90s, their music was compared to such class Motown groups such as The Temptations, The Miracles and The Four Tops, but they created their own success. "I Swear," the title song of their first album, not only went platinum, it also gave the group a Grammy Award in 1995 as the best pop performance by a duo or group.
It marked the group's second big single. Their first, "I Can Love You Like That" was a single top five hit before "I Swear" hit the top of the charts. Later ASCAP named "I Swear" as one of the great love songs of the 20th century and one of Billboard's longest-running number one hits.
During their banner year, the American Music Awards dubbed them favorite new artists for soul/rhythm and blues for "So Much in Love." Another musical smash, "Someday," was the title single from the Disney movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." Subsequent successes have included "I Turn to You," "These Arms" and "Beautiful As You."
They followed their success with touring worldwide, and the soulful quartet is celebrating 20 years of harmony with a trio of musical styles: classic pop, old school rhythm and blues and contemporary sounds. The Los Angeles-based team of Tony Borowiak, Jamie Jones, Delious Kennedy, and Alfred Nevarez have perfect their showmanship through two decades of live shows, particularly in Asia where they've become virtual household names, appearing in The Philippines, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand and Japan several times each year.
"Expect a show stopper," says Adam J. Robertson, SCERA President & CEO. "If you like power ballads, you'll get them. If you prefer funk or acappella, you'll find it. If gospel is your style, that will be showcased as well."
