by Erica Cataldi-Roberts - May 14, 2018
"Willy Loman never made a lot of money. His name was never in the paper. He's not the finest character that ever lived. But he's a human being, and a terrible thing is happening to him." Although taken from the Arthur Miller script, a terrible thing is also happening to the Willy Loman in Daydream Theatre Company's comedic musical spin on Death of a Salesman, THE INSIDE OF HIS SEVERED HEAD, which could alternately be referred to as Willy Loman: Vampire Hunter.

BWW Review: LIFE SUCKS at Epic Theatre, Doesn't Suck
by Andria Tieman - May 07, 2018
It probably takes a certain level of masochism to spend part of a weekend at a play called LIFE SUCKS, but it's (probably) been proven that watching the struggles of other people makes us feel better about our own circumstances. In the case of this play, viewers can feel doubly smug because it's based on Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, and therefore counts as high culture.  Playwright Aaron Posner is making a career of turning the classics on their head--Wilbury Theatre company recently produced Stupid F%&*ng Bird, a play of his based on The Seagull, and there is a lot in the production to enjoy and identify with, even for those not intimately familiar with the source material.
BWW Review: Providence Ballet Theatre's SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS Enchants at the Greenwich Odeum
by Erica Cataldi-Roberts - May 06, 2018
Providence Ballet Theatre closed out their eighth season May 5th and 6th with their own version of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS at the Greenwich Odeum. As explained by artistic director and choreographer of the show, Eva Marie Pacheco, on-stage before the performance, almost everything about this production is original and locally created – with the exception of the piece's composer, Tony Lustig, who hails from New York. Snow White was seen previously as one part of a larger program at Rhode Island College's Sapinsley Hall back in March of this year, but this is the first time it's been presented as its own, stand alone show.

BWW Review: Granite Theatre's PROOF Adds Up
by Erica Cataldi-Roberts - May 01, 2018
Fear not, theatre-goers: David Auburn's Proof, presented by the Renaissance City Theatre, Inc. at Westerly's plush Granite Theatre weekends through May 12th, may contain talk of mathematicians and theorems, but to consider this merely a "play about math" would be disingenuous.
BWW Review: Trinity Rep's Season Closes with Resounding RAGTIME
by Veronica Bruscini - May 01, 2018

BWW Review: HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE IN CONCERT is a Magical Night of Delights
by Andria Tieman - May 01, 2018
Music is such an essential element of a movie watching experience, but like the involuntary act of breathing, it often gets taken for granted.  This fantastic concert series pairs the much-beloved first Harry Potter film with the Rhode Island Symphony Orchestra in a live experience that is truly magical.  Though the film is 17 years old, it remains a timeless treasure for all ages, and getting to experience it in the awesome setting of the Providence Performing Arts Center is a fantastic opportunity all on its own.  The true delight of the evening though is getting to witness the outstanding musicianship (and sheer numbers) of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Shih-Hung Young scoring the film live as the audience watches. Any stuffy ideas one may have about a night at the orchestra go out the window, as the musicians play for three straight hours without a single hiccup.

by Erica Cataldi-Roberts - April 28, 2018
ISABELLA, written and directed by David J. Valentin, holds its world-premiere this weekend at AS220's Black Box Theatre. The play is both timely - given the nation's current opioid epidemic - and timeless, as addictions and the lengths to which people will go to protect their desired vision of life, are not a new phenomenon.
