Trinity Rep to Host INTIMATE APPAREL Panel, 2/3

By:

Trinity Repertory Company invites the public to join in the conversation sparked by their upcoming production of Intimate Apparel, at a panel event hosted on the show's set. Peeling Back the Layers: An Intimate Knowledge of Women's Undergarments, will take place Monday, February 3, 6:00-8:00pm in Trinity Rep's Dowling Theater. This event is free and open to the public. The public panels held throughout the season further Trinity Rep's mission to reinvent the public square and nurture dialogue among the community.

Moderated by Trinity Rep resident Acting Company member Mia Ellis, Peeling Back the Layers: An Intimate Knowledge of Women's Undergarments takes the history of women's fashion and undergarments as a lens through which to examine issues of race, status, gender roles, and sexuality. Panelists include Dr. Radiclani Clytus, Assistant Professor of English and American Studies, specializing in 19th century (African) American cultural productions, Brown University; Dr. Matthew Guterl, Professor of Africana Studies and American Studies, Brown University; Kate Irvin, Curator and Head of the Department of Costume and Textiles at the RISD Museum and Carol Schwebel, owner of Ruth's Lingerie in Cranston, Rhode Island and expert in women's undergarments. Monday, February 3, 6:00-8:00pm in Trinity Rep's Dowling Theater. A moderated discussion followed by questions from the audience. Free and open to the public. RSVP to events@trinityrep.com.

Lace, silk, satin and beads. These are the materials that quiet and unassuming Esther Mills uses to create the exquisite corsets for fashionable brides (and other, less virtuous clientele) in turn-of-the-century Manhattan. Approaching spinsterhood at 35, Esther has yet unfulfilled dreams - love, marriage and one day opening her own business. A letter from a faraway stranger changes everything, and Esther must decide whether she can finally open her heart and try to craft a future for herself as beautiful as one of her creations. Audiences across the country have fallen in love with this new American classic from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage. Intimate Apparel runs January 30 through March 2 in Trinty Rep's Dowling Theater and is sponsored by Brown University. Tickets available at the Trinity Rep box office, 201 Washington St.; by phone at (401) 351-4242; and online at www.trinityrep.com.
